Hyde Park is a nice area. There are a lot of restaurants and bars that are walking distance and you're very close to TGH. Downtown is more of a business district than a party spot excluding Channel Side. Bayshore has a nice view but when it's low tide it smells like the sewer.

Once you get down here you'll find a lot of neat places to go that aren't to far from where you'll be living. Good luck with the new apartment and job.

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

Jbeachgrl - did you move yet? I cannot figure out how to PM - I'm thinking I need to pay for Platinum???

Anyhoo, wondering how it's going? I plan to move from OH in Sept - I'm looking at The Grand Central @ Kennedy - Channelside/ or condos in Hyde Park.

I'm also looking to work at TGH, and start the RN-MSN program at USF next year.

Hope all is going well!!!!

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

You have to have atleast 15 posts to be able to send a pm. Grand Central is nice and located right in downtown, and Hyde Park is a nice area also. TGH is a great place to work (I may be a bit biased )!!! Call and talk to a recruiter because right now we are officially on a hiring freeze but are hiring for certain positions ( I don't believe they are all listed). Good luck!!!!!

Smile Re: Moving to Tampa in July

Good to hear back from you! Congrats on the move & the job!!!

I cannot PM just yet..... I'm so timid about posting lol.

I'm getting there.

I was wondering, here in OH no-one seems to know what an RN recruiter even is... I think I've got the idea - something like a temp service, but I wanted to ask if you used one?

I had applied to TGH about 4 months ago - and they called me back and said that they would be very interested in interviewing me, but that I needed to contact HR when I was closer to Graduation. Now I'm worried that if I don't go through a Recruiter maybe I won't get the same Differentials etc....

What does everyone think? Is it better to go through the Hosp directly or through a Rec.? I also need to make sure that my position will work with me when I go to school - so do you think that it's poss. to do an internship, or are they pretty set scheds?

Sorry - so many quests, I just don't want to contact the Hosp. until I have def. info, dates, etc.

THANKS all!

Again Congrats Tampa Girl!
- Misty

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

TGH has their own nurse recruiting office that is on the 3rd floor (they are TGH employees). When you call the hospital ask for nurse recruiting and they can answer your questions, and tell you what you need to do next.

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

NGreen - Thanks for clearing that up!!
Maybe that's why no-one here seems to know what I'm talking about lol!

So - just to be clear, are there RN recruiters outside the hospitals there in FL, and is there benefit in using them?

Thanks - I learn so..... much from you guys!! I've been spying on this board for over 3 years now! I gasp when I find nursing students who don't know about this place - it is such a great resource!

Thanks again!
- misty

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

Not that I am aware of but I have been at TGH for 10 years. I have friends that have applied and are working at other hospitals in the Tampa area, and the nurse recruiters that they went through were RN's employed by those hospitals.

Re: Moving to Tampa in July

TGH has had a few hiring freezes this year, and what it seems to mean is that you have to be really persistent. Apply online for whatever you're interested in, then call HR and follow up a few days later. If you're told they aren't currently hiring new grads for that position, ask what you are allowed to apply for. If they tell you nothing right now, ask when they expect to start hiring again. I missed it if you said when you were going to graduate (Misty). I wasn't interviewed until after I graduated, and then hired about a week later - but I had applied several months in advance.
