I'm taking pre-reqs at BCC right now and I checked MDC's pre-reqs they require 3 more classes compared to BCC.
I will definitely check the Generic option, the accelerated route is too much for me to handle having a toddler to take care
Thanks again for the information.
Yes, you have to have all your pre-reqs done before applying. I found out in early November, and the deadline is September 1st. The generic option should definitely be looked at. If I ever feel overwhelmed in the accelerated option, I would try the generic. It was a relief hearing the nursing administrators say that there's always an option and to not feel like it's the end of the world -- there's only a 4-month difference between the two.

Hello Miamimom!
From what I remember, you need the Hep.B, Varicella (vaccine and titer), MMR (vaccine and titer), TB skin test and tetanus shot. The titers are to show that you currently are not affected by the disease and you need to show a lab report for the titers (apparently, more hospitals in Miami are requiring this from students in clinicals). You could get them at any private clinic with a doctor (you need a physical examination too), or ask your general practice doctor. You also need to get CPR certification -- which is valid for 2 years.
Hope this helps,
Roberta

My GPA was lower than what people might think you need to get into MDC. I'm not sure what it was exactly when I submitted by application, but it was around a 3.3~3.5. It helped to do well in the sciences, and they also look at each application individually.

I was very discouraged before applying at Miami-Dade, thinking I wouldn't be accepted, but here I am getting my nursing supplies. It doesn't hurt to apply to all options -- you never know.
Szelda is absolutely right, and I should know. My GPA is a miserable 2.8 and guess what? After originally getting rejected I suddenly received an acceptance letter 3 days before the orientation!:hatparty: (my overall GPA is poor but my science GPA is around 3.4 or so which I think is what got me in)
Anyway, good luck to you and remember: If I got in, anybody can just apply, you got nothing to lose.

Well the rumors are still circulating that if you dont have at least a 3.8, you wont get in. So it was nice to read your post, Hex.
My GPA is high but Micro lab, Chemistry and chem lab might just change all that.
I also heard that you have to have your application in on THE FIRST DAY that they start accepting applications...???
Please keep us posted MDC students! Let us know how it's going.

For new MDC medical students: Another thing you could do now to save time (besides getting vaccinated) is go online at mdc.edu & find out how to get your police investigation, I think it was $46 (cash) at MDC North, you must go online to get an appt and then be on time, they then take your fingerprint & you are cleared to do clinicals at any hospital, in case the hosp requires (all the govt. facilities do). It's a great thing to get out of the way. I got through it - just graduated & am studying for Boards (no authorization to test yet received). Recommendation: for every area you study in school, do min. 100 practice NCLEX questions. Even if you get them wrong & don't understand, read and internalize the rationales - it's great preparation for the big test.

I will be finished with pre-reqs at the end of this semester. Is it too early to submit my application for the fall term? Or do I have to wait until I'm actually finished with this semester before applying? I have gotten two different answers on this. I may drive up to the med campus this week and see if I can find someone to help.
Any info is always appreciated.
Thanks again
