I am moving to Bradenton the end of the summer from Pensacola. I moved here in Jan so I could start the LPN-RN program.

Hubby couldn't find a job and it's been strenous staying with my mom so we are moving to Bradenton.

Have any of you went to either MCC or St Pete's? Pensacola Junior College's Nursing Program is having some really bad times right now and I don't want to stay here and go into LPN transition. I just wanted to know what you all thought about these colleges.

Hi Michelle - I am a MCC LPN-RN graduate. I enjoyed the program and had some really great instructors. The LPN to RN program offers a great deal of clinical and skill development. In the end, whatever sacrifice you make to finish the RN is worth it .... at least it was for me.

I felt that the program provided outstanding opportunities to learn, and is doing an excellent job to prepare its students.

The last time I knew, there was not a long wait list for the LPN to RN program. They accept 25 LPN's into their advance placement program. If all your pre-reqs are done, you should have a pretty good chance of getting in. Of course, I am speaking about MCC .... not really sure about SPC.

The evening program is just like the day program only in the evening??? (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

The biggest differences: Clinical hours for the "day" program are 6:30am-2:30pm, and for the "evening" program, 2:30pm-10:30pm.

The classes are essentially grouped the same; "day program" all before 2:30 or so, "evening program" after 2:30pm or so.

The course content is the same, the exams and policies are departmental in nature.

Even though in the 'evening' program, sometimes you do have to schedule morning things - such as infrequent departmental exams, final exams, etc.

I was hoping to get into MCC because it will be closer, but, since I don't have my stuff in, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get in next May. I am going to try, though.

If I don't think I am, I may start SPC just so I don't have to wait so long....but, then again, I might go there anyway. Uggh. I just don't know if my job would let me leave to get to school on time.

Decision, decisions.

I may just have to do baylor somewhere.

My name is Kris, and I've been attending MCC forever. If everything goes okay, I should finally be starting in Fall 2005. I've taken a couple of turns away from nursing, but I find myself keep turning back. Since we have a new Department head for nursing, there seems to be a lot more organization than before. I would advise you, if you are still looking into MCC, to check out their website: http:\\www.mccfl.edu and go to the academic section. Applications for the transition program are accepted in January. You need to have all of the prereqs finished.

I'm originally from NY, but after a few years here, I'm really beginning to love it here. The school is great. The area is growing by leaps and bounds.
