Lightbulb Jupiter area RNs- help!

Upon graduation in May 2005, my husband and I will be moving from MA to the Jupiter area. Family members in the area are not in the medical field, so I was wondering if you could help me! Where should I work?? I am interested in a year of med/surg experience, and RNs in my area up north start around $24/hour after graduation. What's the going rate in the Jupiter area?

Also, I am unclear as to whether I am required to take the NCLEX exam in Florida, or if I take it up here in MA, would I just apply for a FL state license?
Thank you!

Can't help you with hospitals but you can take the NCLEX where ever you want, you could actually fly out to Hawaii and take it there. You can apply for a license in MA, then apply for endorsement to Florida, or you can skip the fees to MA, and just apply to Florida BON for licensure.

:hatparty: It would be a lot easier if you take your NCLEX right after graduation in FL and apply for your original license there. You do not have to apply for licensure in the State you graduated from. For example I graduated nursing school in NY and right after graduation, applied and took the RN boards in CA. Jupiter is kind of a limited area. The pay is not bad. Sure employers will try to offer as little as they can get away with but you can always request more. That is what I did. About 18 months ago the RN's were getting $20 per hour in West Palm Beach area, but I requested and got $27.00. There was a shortage when I was out there. The price of housing is really going up in Jupiter.

hi from maine

Hi ,I am from jupiter. fl. originally . i grew up there ,, i have been living in Maine for 5 years now. The best place to get a job would be Jupiter Medical center. Also there is Hospice of the Palm beaches .. all kinds of home health agencies ,, If you want to travel little ,15 minutes away , go to St. Mary`s in west palm beach. ,, they have a trauma center ,, then there is Palm beach Gardens medical center off of burns rd, and Alt. a1a is another hospital,,
Where will you be living in Jupiter ,?
who are your relatives in jupter .. I may know them . I lived there for 25 years ,,,

I told my husband that when I get tired of all this snow in maine , i am going to do travel nurse and work at Juptier hospital in January , feb, and march ,, My mom and borther live there and i have a house to go to ..
good luck and let me know

Josie

Hi Josie!

Thanks for the info! Actually, my sister lives in Loxahatchee at the moment, and my father and brother live in Boynton Beach, so they are not from Jupiter originally, however my sister is building a new home at the Paseos as we speak. I'm heading down in July with my husband to look at some models in the Paseos development, as well as Abacoa. My brother-in-law is a real estate broker so he's been a great help! I hear the area is beautiful and look forward to checking it out...

I'm also looking forward to my new career down there! I have been a Hospice volunteer for a few years now, so that may be something that interests me- it's such a hard decision! I'm hoping I find employers desperate enough to hire me at the same rate I would be making here in Western MA.

I would love any helpful hints you might have about the areat- thanks the the wonderful information about local hospitals!

Take care,
Heather

Please put Florida in the search option.

There are many threads that may have information there that is useful in your search.

Good Luck.

I am not sure of port st. lucie , but Martin Memorial is in Stuart Fl.. not to far .. I do know that everything in Martin county is cheaper than living in Palm beach county .. Good luck ,
josie
