My husband obtained his RN (by endorsement) in about 2-3 months. He is very diligent and had everything together when he send his application in. He is only licensed in one other state so I am not sure what is standard (in other states). My license (not in nursing) took several months to process after completing supervision hours (like a residency) in the state of Florida. My point is, Florida is slow in issuing licensing in all diciplines, not just nursing.

Thumbs up Florida license and such

Hi :

Thanks for the reply. In my state fingerprints are required for nurse aides and school nurses. I was fingerprinted to be a sub school nurse.
Thanks, I have seen the ads in Spectrum.

I know that I am in for a culture shock when I get down there but do you know what we are talking about in terms of salaries. I am an RN with over 20 years experience in various fields.

Do the hospitals and nursing homes pay for certification if you are specialty certified?

When I went to Florida, I was not paid additional for my CCRN, but I am not paid additional in my home hospital either. I wasn't really looking for pay, just hours and a job. Florida pay however is significantly lower than that of PA and their licensure costs and requirements are the highest I have ever encountered.

$15.00 - 22.00 to start, depending on specialty and locale - in hospitals.

The South Florida (Boca Raton, Miami, Ft.Myers) pay more than those farther North and in the interior (except maybe Orlando/Celebration)

husband is an BSN-RN

$34.00 prn rate plus 15% evenings and 25% midnights....in to the shift differential an additional $6 for weekends.
he wrote his schedule and wasn't mandated to take any particular shifts. never got called off.

when he was full-time the rate was 18-19 per hour.

Smile 2 wk turnaround for temp license

I sent in my Florida license by endorsement in late February and have already received a temporary license and a letter stating all they need is the endorsement from N.J. Maybe things are improving at the BON.

This is purly a Canadian perspective, but my licence only took about 2 months. There was alot of paperwork but once I had it all in order there were no problems. As for the cost, the province I live in requires all RN's to pay a licence fee each year, 325$, and if you don't produce your new licence to your Head Nurse, you don't work, ie no pay. Plus, we have to belong to a union, some benfits I admit, which also costs over 300$ per year.

Hope to be in Florida by July. All the best.
