Talking FCCJ--Here I come!

I just got back from hand-delivering my application for the night/weekend track starting in January '08, and submitted my application with 217.2 points! Woo Hoo! I feel pretty good about this!

Okay....just had to get that out.

Thanks, elbay. I will.

I'm thinking that I want to CLEAN my house from now until January since I don't know that I'll get another chance to clean it until Winter Break 2008! :-D

Re: FCCJ--Here I come!

Hi np_wannabe!

I'm hoping to apply to the night/weekend program, too, for Jan 2008! Have you heard what the schedule is like (like, how many nights/week classes are and what the weekend hours are?) Your points will definitely get you in! I have 194 points and still get to retake the NAT test one more time, which I'll do to increase my point values, but from my understanding, I think I have enough points, too, to get into the program. I hope it's enough for nights and weekends. When do we find out about acceptance???

Hello This Won't Hurt Much!

I know a few things about the last few night/weekend classes (I have a few friends going through it) and will be happy to share what I know with you:

  • We will meet from 6PM to 9PM two or three times during the week, then clinicals either all day or a portion of both days on the weekends.
  • The cut-off is usually between 181 to 183 points each semester (so you should be good even without re-taking the NAT).
  • Even though they say we will meet at the Deerwood campus, they may have us go to North campus for the first semester.
  • Nights/weekends has 24 spots.
    • We will get our acceptance/rejection letters the second week of November.

That's about all I can think of ..... If I think of something, I'll let you know. If you have any questions, ask. If I don't know, I know where to get an answer.

Great to meet you. See you at orientation!

Carla

One of my night/weekend buddies started Jan 07. His clinical schedule went like this:

1st semester: Sat 7AM to 3PM, Sun 1PM to 4PM
2nd semester: the first half was only Sat 7AM to 7PM; second half of the semester was Sat & Sun same hours as first semester
3rd semester: Sat 7AM to 7PM

I have another friend who just started nights/weekends a few weeks ago, and they are doing clinicals on both days (I think...I can't remember now. I guess I deleted her email), but she only has class one night a week or, if she has a test, two.

HTH!

Re: FCCJ--Here I come!

Oh, I am so grateful for your insights! Sounds like you have some good contacts out there! WHat have you hear about the teachers for the night/weekend classes? Does anyone have any feedback for us on that???? Also, for anyone out there, how much studying per day do you put in? I've heard that studying for nursing school is a different kind of studying than I would have done up to this point. Any advice or insight for that???

Re: FCCJ--Here I come!

Hi Heather.

Here's my experience with the NAT:

There are 5 parts, but FCCJ only uses the scores from the Academic Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, and Natural Sciences, so those were the only sections of the test that I did (you can click on a button to skip/exit each section).

Basically, I figured that I can't really study for academic aptitude or reading comprehension, so I bought the Arco book and reviewed the sciences (especially since it's been over ONE YEAR since my last A&P class). As it turns out, that was even a waste of time...I think I got all of 4 questions because of that "studying."

The academic aptitude question is comprised of 3 parts: math, vocabulary, and spatial relations (being able to envision what an object looks like if it's flipped or turned sideways). The math is VERY basic math, vocabulary is not too bad.

HTH and good luck!!
