Re: FCCJ Fall 2008

I turned in my papers the other day and they couldn't find folders for any last names starting with P,R and S. They just stuck my folder where it should be and I'm hoping it doesn't get tossed. Um, disorganized anyone? Seems a little unfair that we have to get these minute little details right yet they can lose a whole section of folders and it's not a big deal. It's going to be a long 16 months, ladies...

Re: FCCJ Fall 2008

Well, I've got my papers all turned in, and gotten all of my stuff... well except the uniforms from Meridy's. Apparently, we don't get those until September.
But, any hoo... how about that "skills kit"? A bit pricey for what you get in there, but at least I've got it now. I kept wanting to rip the packages open and practice giving people shots... go figure. No one will let me near them in my house now and I can't figure out why.
Now that I have nothing to do or get anymore, I feel a little blue. I'm afraid I might be coming down off my high. Now I can't wait till orientation in 2 weeks... ho hum....

Re: FCCJ Fall 2008

Okay..so Clinicals do not include classroom time. Is there a set # of days you can miss classes?? Wow..I really hope I don't get sick alot through this. That would be a nightmare. What days are classes and what days are clinicals?? What are the class times?? Thats crazy!! Thanks sooo much for your help!!
In Term 1, you will have 4 classes-Concepts, Assessment, Pharmacology and Techniques. The Techniques class is the clinical. The first 8 weeks of techniques is learning in the lab (still a 7-3 class) and then the 2nd 8 weeks is when you are out in the hospital, the "clinical setting". You can only miss 2 clinical (hospital) days.

For Term 2 Adult Health (the class is split with Psych), you go into clinical immediately at the start of the semester. For Psych, it will be dependent on your instructor and what facility you'll be out (psych facilities are limited).

Now, here is the caveat to all of this-we now have an interim Director of Nursing. There is no telling how many changes she will implement right off the bat. I know Pharm is going hybrid and concepts is a hybrid class (my group screamed the loudest about the concepts class being online). Assessment will never be online, too much hands on needed.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Don't forget to mention that if you do miss a clinical day you have to submit a signed statement that includes why you missed and any documentation regarding your circumstance. And if you're late you have to submit a signed statement as to why and what time you arrived. Both of the above go into your permanent record.

And in regards to the classes.... I have Pharm online now and I wish it was hybrid so next semester is lucky. I have concepts hybrid right now .. jury's still out on that one. We didn't even know the class was hybrid till the first day of class and the schedule has changed at least 4 times. The prof is great but because we don't see her that much we have too much to do on the days we do see her and when it came time to do care plans... oh my god... it was mayhem. We were all so confused. Thank god our techniques prof talks to our concepts prof or we'd still be lost. I can see that it's doable online but it needs to be more organized. My techniques prof says she's taking the class over next term and she's great about organization stuff and giving very clear directions so it should be better.

YEAH! How did you find out? I'm thrilled for you! You can easily get all of your stuff done in a couple of days. I would definetly go the Northside Medical Clinic tomorrow, if you can, and if you got your packet cuz you need certain forms. But, you can get it done, no problem... but it is gonna cost ya... unfortunately.

Re: FCCJ Fall 2008

Question!!

I went to my OB, they gave me my labs from the pregnancy...

Rubella = positive
Hep B = non-reactive
Varicella = (not listed)

Okay...help me here. What the heck does non-reactive mean? That means I'm NOT positive right? I know that I've had chicken pox before so my Varicella should be positive but it wasn't tested. So, can I just sign the declination form and not submit the positive titer lab? I plan to still start the Hep B series...but not before the 31st. Then I guess I would just need to get the varicella titer right?
