Any Florida LPN's (relocating questions)
|
|
Hi There!
I'm looking to relocate to Florida with my family. I have a husband and four boys. How are the jobs for LPN's? Where are the best cities to work in? Also, are LPN's paid more in long term, clinics or hospitals there? I am also interested in kid-friendly cities.
Thanks

I think that your post might do better in the Florida Nursing Forum, I'll move your thread there, good luck with the move and I'm sure you will get useful responses.

I live in Sarasota, FL

I work in a nursing home and that is the place to work as an LPN. Hospitals do not pay above 11-13/ hr

I wish I could tell you all of Florida is so-called Disneyworld. The schools here are terrible, they look like trailer parks instead of schools. I have a 15 year old and I moved from west palm beach to sarasota to get away from the hectic lifestyle there; but sarasota is very much geared towards the elderly. the pay is a little above average (so they say) The beaches are beautiful but the cost of living is very high. Sorry to be so negative

I see your message was posted last month... but I am new so I will give my 2 cents anyway....lol... yes LTC and ALF's are the place for LPN's to work in florida the hosp. pay is really bad here. But be warned you have a lot of different cultures as CNA's and they don't speak good english! That's all I have to say about that..lol. Okay well good luck with the move, if you haven't already moved!!!

I too am planning on relocating to Florida and I am an LPN. So I have a few questions myself if that is ok...
I have been reading some want ads and I see LPN III and LPN II...what is the difference?
What is an average pay in the nursing homes down there in Florda, I currently here in Michigan make $16.49/hr in LTC.
What are some of the nursing homes around Dade City..or in that vicinity?
Thanks for any help given!

well, I guess I am not sure what an LPN I or an LPN II is I haven't heard of that down here. You will start out at about 15.00 or 16.00 an hour in, LTC and ALF's I am in southwest florida, on the other side of the state. I hope that helps a little...
Good Luck with the move!!

thanks for the reply! 15 or 16 isn't bad, I make that here in Michigan, and my goal is to make as much or more...like everyone else I can't afford a pay cut. We are looking at moving into the area of Dade City/Zephyrhills area. I love it there and can't wait to move but I have to find a job there. Some people tried to tell me the hospitals pay more then LTC, but I was reading that LPNs make more in the LTC (same as here in MI). And I really would like to stay in LTC. Anyhow thanks for the reply any other info you may have would be great, I can use all the help I can get with moving this far away.

If you're going to be living in Pasco county, you could look into working in Tampa. I am finishing up in RN school, and have spoken to a few recruiters in the area, and Tampa pays on average ( for what I have seen) $2 more an hour, and it isn't really that much of a commute. Just something to think about. Myself, I am moving to that area in June.
Best of luck!

Hey thanks for the reply, I have noticed in researching jobs online that Tampa does seem to have alot of opportunities. I have also been researching into getting my LPN license for Florida. I have been reading that I should allow 3 months to get it. I hope it doesn't take that long...but I'll do what I have to. Anyhow thanks again...keep the info coming gang...I can use all I can get.
