Joun, The preparation is the same as for the TOEFL, TSE, and TWE series.
But you will find a problem with trying to test for it in the US. The US uses Educational Testing Systems for their testing. The IELS series is used in the UK, Australia, as well as Asia. Something else for you to consider.

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

I"m outside the U.S as RN, and i am planning to work in chicago illinois. However, i am confused in the Illinois General Assembly-Public Act # 094-0351 "AN Act concerning NURSING". In this said provision under section 10-37 #6 it says "Has sbmitted proof of taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as minimum score as set by rule. Applicants with the highest TOEFL scores shall be given consideration to entrance extern program". http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publ...94-0351&GA=094. Effective date July 28, 2005. I already passed the IELTS but in this provision, IELTS has not been stated . Pleeease elucidate me on this...Thanks & MOre Power!

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

IELTS is accepted by Illinois. Just worry about passing the NCLEX exam, CGFNS exam is no longer required, only a credentials eval done by CGFNS.

You actually need the full series of English exams to work in the US, so do not worry about that.

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

Thank you very much for your immediate reply, suzanne. At least my mind is already at peace with regards to this particular issue. But I have another questions, if you don't mind, I passed the NCLEX exam last July '2005 with California license. I have signed a contract in Chicago, the question now arises : do I need to apply for reciprocity? Can I work without reciprocity? My lawyer is now processing my papers for the I-140, how long does it take the papers to be processed? Thank you & More Power!

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

Hi I just took my TOEFL exam last dec 2 and awaiting for the results. I plan to work in Illinois. I took TOEFL because I read in the website of Illinois that the only exam they are accepting is TOEFL/TSE that's why I took it. I even send them emails to ask if IELTS is accepted and their reply is that as of the moment only TOEFL/TSE are accepted. I have not yet scheduled my TSE because I heard that many are taking it for many times before they pass it so I'm scared to take it soon. I read here that Suzane said IELTS is accepted in Illinois?

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

Please read carefully: this will surely resolve now our problem on the issue of what English language to be accepted. Under Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation it setforth that there are three (3) requirements for an Internationally Educated Nurse to obtain an "Illinois license",to wit:

1. CES Report (Credential Evaluation Report)
2. TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language)
3. NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam.)
Under TOEFL, it clearly highlighted & emphasized the word "only" that TOEFL is the only English test acceptable for licensure in illinois & must achieve a passing minimum score of 550 or 213 on the TOEFL computer base exam. It was also emphasized that these requirements such as CES and TOEFL applies to all Internatinally Educated Nurses including those applying by endorsement,US Citizens and Visa Holders. CGFNS is no longer a requirement to obtain a license in the State of Illinois. Current Revision 08/16/05. I hope & fervently pray as a foreign nurse they will make a revision that IELTS is also acceptable in the State of Illinois in the near future. Thank you & God bless us all. http://www.idfpr.com/DPR/APPLY/FORMS/CGFNS_02.pdf

You would apply for license by endorsement, not reciprocity. That no longer exists. And unless you actually have a SSN#, you do not actually have a license in CA to endorse. You cannot work in Illinois without a license from that state. You cannot endorse until you have a license number to endorse.

If you are just beginning the process, and do not have approval yet, you could be looking at another year, as you will need to endorse to Illinois, but that cannot be done until you have a SSN#.

Re: About the IELTS exam(english exam)?

You mean to say, Suzanne, that I have to get my SSN# from California since my NCLEX was for a California license? How can I do this when my employment will be at Illinois? Thanks in advance for your reply.

SSN # can be obtained in any state; however, you need to provide some documents for SS administration--working permit, green card, immigration visa, etc. Usually, you apply for SSN# in the state where you live and it arrives by the mail. Good luck!
