Should I drop my A&P1 Class?

Hi Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. I am in a sticky situation and would like some thoughtful advice. Currently, I am taking Micro, A&P1, and Sociology, as well as working 20+ hours a week. I just moved to Colorado from Southern California a couple of months ago and I'm trying to get into UNC's traditional BSN program.

I have a B in micro, an A in Sociology, and a very low D in A&P1.. I spend all my free time studying and I am very VERY frazzled and stressed out all the time..

My parents have been kind enough to "loan" me some money to quit my job and focus on my classes... However, the BEST I can get out of A&P is a C..

Also, my job is a Nanny to two month old baby boy whom I have cared for since he was two weeks old.. I feel really bad leaving her hanging. She trusts me so much and treats me very well.

My question is shoudl I drop this A&P class and continue to work? Or should I take my parents offering and just take a C in A&P and do extremley well on A&P2 (as well as the rest of my prerequisites).

I paid (out of state tuition $1500) for this class and really do not want to retake it again if there is anyway around it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Should I drop my A&P1 Class?

It sounds as if you are having a very hard time of it. Sorry to hear this. With the competition to get into programs being what it is, I would have to advise you to drop and retake, shooting for a B or an A. How long before you have your year in so out of state tuition no longer applies? If you do decide to drop, don't let the time go by without doing some extensive study on your own to get you up to par. Even spending extra money for a private tutor or other review courses would be worth it if you could pull yourself up to an A, otherwise you may find yourself having to repeat it again or otherwise changing your plans. Good luck whichever way you go.

I totally agree. Programs are too competitive to take the C and let it hurt you that much. Drop it and retake it later.

Re: Should I drop my A&P1 Class?

Than you guys for the advice , I think I'm gonna take it..

Next question:

Does anyone have experience with taking A&P1 over the summer (12 week course).

I will not be working, just doing the class.

Thanks!

Actually, i'd like to know the same thing. I'm ready to take A&P1 next semester (summer) as well. Anyone have any words of wisdom for those of us going to try that?

Re: Should I drop my A&P1 Class?

I'm sorry but with your current D average in a regular paced class, it is not advisable to take the summer course. Our school instructors always advised us to not take anatomy or physiology during the summer due to the fast pace, no holds barred way of teaching the material. Only those students who were already identified as excellent students in the sciences were ever encouraged to take these courses in the summer. I think it is too fast for you. Don't set yourself up for failure.

Re: Should I drop my A&P1 Class?

I think it would be wise to drop the class it’s just too tough to get in those programs with any c’s. I would avoid in the future taking to big bio or chem. classes in one semester as it lead to mayhem. I think the summer class is fine if that’s the only tough class you are taking. Talk to other students and find out who the easier instructors are, or which focus less on your weak points (for me it was those damm cats). Where are you taking your prereqs? Learn all you can from them you will need it later, dont listen to those that say otherwise you get alot more form Nursing school if you worked hard in your prereqs.
