Regis University or Metro State

Hi all,
I'm applying to either or both accelerated BSN programs at these schools. Has anyone recently got accepted or gone through either of these programs and can offer any advice??? I'm not from the area, so I really am kind of heading in blind, other than whats offered on their websites. Thanks!

Re: Regis University or Metro State

Hi,
I will be starting the Accelerated BSN program at Regis Jan '09. Honestly, I never really looked into the program at Metro. The two programs I considered were Regis and CU, but Regis is so much shorter so that was my preference...once I got accepted at Regis that was it.

One thing that really drew me to Regis was the high retention rate...when I went to their information session, they said that over the past year they only had 2 students drop out and unfortunately both were due to cancer. Also, I have a friend that graduated (BSN traditional program) from Regis in May'07 and she said her class started with aroun 85 and she could only think of 2 people that dropped out and one was due to pg, one her dh got a job out of state. She has told me over and over how great her instructors were and how they are completely dedicated to your success.

Apparently the last 2-3 months of the program you get to choose where you want to "work" (what type of unit) and from what I understand most of the students get offered jobs at those places. I just haven't heard any negative at all...sure that it's hard, but what nursing school isn't. And of course there is the tuition, but I want to work at Children's and they have loan forgiveness.

Good luck!

Re: Regis University or Metro State

Thanks so much for the insight! I live in California so its hard to get real information. If you don't mind me asking what was your GPA? I know they say only a 2.5 is required but I'm assuming it will take a little more than that to be accepted.

Re: Regis University or Metro State

From what they told us at the info mtg, they weigh your ungrad gpa and your sciences pre-req's (A&P I and II, Micro, and Chem) gpa equally and yes, it is much more competitive than a 2.5.

My gpa from my B.S. was 3.5 and my gpa in the sciences is 4.0. You can apply with only 3 of the 4 sciences completed (that is what I did). We were told that there were about 370 applicants for 90 spots. I felt very pressured to get 4.0 in the science pre-reqs b/c I have absolutely no health care experience...completely left that part of the app blank. Oh, and you also have to write an essay which we were told is weighed fairly heavily.

Hope that helps!
