There are people that do the commute but like the other posters stated the commute sucks. You have solid traffic from Castlerock on in the morning and from C470 to Castlerock in the evening. If you were working nights it might be doable since you are going against traffic both ways. It would help if it was Sky Ridge or Parker as a hospital. Going much farther into Denver would turn it into a true hell trip.
As for Weather the Palmer Divide makes the weather there pretty bad. Denver and Colorado Springs have different weather patterns. So you get exposed to snow events in both areas and the crazy weather on the divide itself. From the magic of the Internet:

Overall I couldn't recommend it and would definitely have a good four wheel drive in the winter. That part of I-25 gets closed about 2-3 times per year so having some place to stay if stranded would also help.
