Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Actually once you apply for Sally Mae they suggest you apply each year because you can get up to $6000.00 extra for whatever i.e. books living expenses etc. per year. And no you dont have to use ALL the loan money they send you to pay for your whole time there. Actually DSON encourages that you only pay on a monthly bases.
The sally mae loan I feel is not the best but with a co-signer i got approved with in 24 hours and the payment for the duration of school is only $10 a month. Now after school is out depending on your percentage rate and payback period determines how much a month you have to pay. Like any other loan you should always pay as much toward the loan before you go out and buy all new stuff just because your making a bigger paycheck. This not only helps cut back on the duration of the loan but also significantly reduces the interest you will have to pay over time (like with any other loan it's ALOT).

So no you dont have to pay as soon as your accepted
You pay monthly
Sally Mae is a good loan as long as you know how to manage your money and know how to pay off a BIG loan fast.

Alright, there you go. I hope this clarifies a little more.

is the Sally Mae loan subsidized? Does it accrue interest while you are in school?? Does the school require you to use the sally mae loan for financing your schooling?

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

April,

Thank you taking time out of your busy schedule to post replies. I start the program in October and just received the schedule.

You mentioned you have a family, as do I, and I wondered how you were coping with the schedule. Do you have any regrets being in the program and the time it takes away from your family?

On two days there is "open lab" until 6PM. How long were you there on those days and is attendance voluntary for these labs?

I have been waiting to enter a BSN program for some time, and I am so glad to be finally fulfilling a dream. I would love to hear any comments you have, since I am nervous about doing well in the program. Thank you so much for your help.

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Could you please tell me where I should take the pathophysiology class, for the DSoN ADN program? Iam enrolled for April 2009. Which other classes would I be able to take online, to make the course load lighter?
Thanks

I was registered for patho through Arapahoe Community College this semester. I was taking it online. I know we're not supposed to post names here, but I hope initials are okay...ANY class in the ACC biology department that has T.H. connected with it needs to be avoided, IMO. I took my first semester of A & P under him, and am still amazed I managed to pull a B. I took my second semester of A & P under another instructor and while I didn't breeze through it, it was infinitely easier and I got an A. The patho class I was registered for has T.H. listed as the "instructor" but had another person basically faciliating the class. NIGHTMARE. Seriously. Trust me. If it's through ACC and it has T.H. attached to it in anyway, run like the wind.

I was not going to get out of the class with anything better than a B, and it was looking like I wasn't even going to be able to do that well, so I withdrew. I lost my tuition money and a semester's worth of time, but at least salvaged my GPA.

A good friend took patho through www.ccconline.org and did very well with it. Again, not easy, but doable.

Good luck!

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Thanks so much for the reply!! I really appreciate it! I was also wondering.....has anyone heard of Canyon College in California? It is an online school, with open enrollment. They have a Certificate in Correctional Nursing program, which seems very interesting and also affordable AND you don't have to be nurse or in nursing program to take it. It just seems like it would be a good class to take if you are interested in a nursing career. They also offer a 4 credit Pathophysiology course, and i am wondering if those credits would transfer to DSoN.
Thanks!!
