Re: Denver School of Nursing --

One of the girls in my class contacted CU about a year ago to see if they would take our credits, and they said that yes, they would. However, I don't know of anyone personally who has gone on to finish out there BSN there yet.

As far as Children's goes, our instructors told us directly that they pretty much only take Bachelor's level nurses. Evidently the hospital won't admit this, but the BSNs are always preferred there from what I have heard...which is strange considering some of the ADN classes at DSON (mine included) had clinical rotations at Children's. Some people in my class were interested in getting jobs there, but were highly encouraged to save time and money and just wait to apply until after getting a BSN. But maybe things have changed by now with their move to Fitzsimmons.

Do you know if University of Colorado will take accept Denver nursing school credits if I wanted to finish my bachelors there?? Also I herad Denver CHildrens does not hire ADN nurses>??

I heard the same thing about University of Colorado Hospital--does anyone know if they too only hire BSNs or will they hire ADN? Thanks!!

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

I'm really interested in this thread...I just have a BILLION questions about DSON and getting accepted. I'd love to hear about the experiences of people who have applied and gotten in...if you want to post them here or email me that would be awesome.

I am SO not in the mood to spend time on waiting lists, and my understanding is that DSON has a short one. Is that true? I have three more pre-reqs I need to take. I can apply at DSON when I've whittled that down to just one class, correct?

Have any graduates had any issues regarding the school's accreditations status? I was very surprised to see the number of nursing schools in the metro area that AREN'T accredited.

Oh, just fire away. Any info you have on this school and your experience with it will be most welcome. Thanks so much!

Talking Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Penny,

This is aprila1, I started the original post. I am just about finished with my first quarter at DSON and you know, so far so good. Our first quarter has been demanding so it's defin. not a cake walk.
I got accepted into DSON, back in Dec of 2006 and I had 3 pre-reqs that I had to finish. So I was accepted under the condition that I passed all of my Pre-reqs which I did. So If you only have 2 or 3 left I would get in contact with rep for DSON.
Just to let you know. For DSON there is no financial aid avail. so you would have to take a loan out or borrow money from family or if your lucky enough to be able to afford it on your own well thats the best way to go.
I do have a word of advice for you. Get in contact with a rep. and if you are able to take Pathophysiology before coming in. It will enable to you to take one less class and study more for your other subject.
If you have any other questions write away. I dont get on much but I will start looking.

Hope this helped.

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Penny,

By the way I forgot to mention. I have not heard of anyone having any trouble getting a job after going to DSON. Also, DSON is accredited in the state of Colorado, it just does not have National accredidation yet. I know of quite a few hospitals around here that hire DSON student after graduation. Also, the last Nclex pass rate was an 88% first time test takers, which is pretty darn good if you ask me.

Don't wait like I did I could have been a nurse by now going on 2 years if I would have just done it. Dont wait get in contact with someone at the school.

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

Penny,

I'm glad I was able to help. Hope I didn't scare you off.
I figure even if you have to apply for a loan which is the Sally Mae loan which is the only loan program they offer, it's better then having to wait 3 to 4 years on a wait list.

Let everyone know what your thinking about doing. I spoke with Kelley she is in the admin department for enrolling students. She was extremely helpful and patient with ALLLLLLL of my questions before making my final decision to go with DSON.

Anyway good luck.

I'm seriously looking into relocating from Los Angeles and applying to the DSON. I'm a bit worried about the whole accredating issue though since I would like to eventually pursue a Masters in nursing.... does anyone have more info on this? People out here are telling me not to do it because it may be a waste and whatnot.

Re: Denver School of Nursing --

I can tell you that there are 48 people in my class.
there are about 25 of us who want to continue our education. The decision is completely up to you. I would get on a wait list RIGHT NOW if the accredi. thing is bugging you.

Good luck. I just cant waste anymore of my time waiting and as long as I get to sit for my boards I can wait to furthur my education at a later time.

I have a kid and a husband and a mortgage and car payment and bills and everything else you could possible think of. I cant afford to waste time.

again Good Luck.

Thanks for the info, I have another question. Do they require you to pay your tuition fees via the sally mae loans? How bad are these loans? Do they require you to pay your tuition as soon as you're accepted into the program? Thanks once again.
