bfrdncr41,
i am not too sure what most of the students have done about health insurance, maybe someone else will answer this as i have a special situation regarding my insurance.
however, i saw your question about denver health and i wanted to tell you that our students have had some luck with that hospital, as well as the other level i trauma centers. there is a student in our class who was selected for a paid internship in denver health's obervation icu which should probably lead to employment after graduation. as well, there is someone in our class who has gotten something similar at swedish medical center's icu, which is one of the other two level one trauma centers in the state. both of these people are undergraduates and they are already being offered possible or likely employment at these places after graduation.
i don't know if denver health is considered the "premier" trauma center or not. i can tell that any time something newsworthy happens that involves trauma, they are usually taken either to denver health or st anthony's central (the 3rd level one center). as i said swedish is the third as far as i understand it.

I think you can pull out insurance through blue cross or some other private insurance agency ??? I personally am under my husbands work insurance, but when there was a gap in his insurance 6 years ago I pulled out a private insurance plan for my son and I and it was only $80 a month..

Great to know! I think I speak for everyone when I say I will be more at ease once the school attains its accreditation. People have actually tried to talk me out of going there b/c of that issue, but I feel the school's reputation speaks for itself. Thanks so much for all your valuable info!

Hi everyone!
I have a question,
Is it true that you need to have a health insurance while you are in the DSON program?
Thank you very much!

Hi:
You do have to get health insurance. I think that is a requirement of some of the clinical locations.

I have a question about the BSN program, I know that it is 22months long. I was wondering if anyone is allowed to take one an extra class etc., to speed up the process??
Thanks

Hello, Patoyia:
The program is pretty structured and keeps the whole class going throught the program together. The only exception is when someone has already taken a class -in this case the student can be excused from taking it again (though many in my class go ahead and audit the class). I hope this helps.

Hi,
Can you give an update on your career after graduating from Denver School of Nursing? Has anyone tried for Advanced degrees, such as a Master's, PhD, etc., can you please write about any issues that you may have run into with applications due to accreditation? Thanks.

I can't speak for anyone else as I haven't gone through the program yet, but I can tell you they have plans for a MSN program in the near future at DSoN.

I had the same thing I got my letter than a girl named Danielle her acceptance letter also !!
As for all the loans we have had a mortgage and sold our home in chicago but just to get a lower rate we are having my parents sign and we will pay each month now so it wont be as high when I graduate. It really is an investment for the future and once we are done with school we can start working !!! YEAH>..
My question is, for the people who live in Denver and work, does Childrens take ADN ??? I worked in an PICU in Chicago for 7 years so I have the nursing assistant experience, but obviously not the RN experience. DSON told me they do not hire ADN and they do not do clinicals there either ?? Just wondering how true that is ?? Also is anyone else going to be in my class ?? A lot are doing the BSN, but I have not heard about ADN ??
Thanks,
Meaghan
Hi Meaghan,
My name is June and I will be in the ADN class for fall 2008. I think we are in the same boat. I plan on getting my RN license and get my BSN from the University of Phoenix. I decided this route because I didn't have time to finish a couple of classes before the October deadline, and wanted to start work right away. Afterall, most hospitals will pay for you to get your BSN.
Well, I hope to see you at orientation on Sept. 25th!
June
