Do you get any breaks between any of the terms?
How are the teachers - helpful, concerned, etc. - is there a lot of teacher turnover?
How many started the class and how many are there now?
How are clinicals going - learning a lot? - what's the farthest away you've had to go for one?

You're positive attitude is catching - that's how you get it done

Thanks in advance
Let's see... The sessions are 10 weeks long with a week in between. I think we have some great teachers, some awesome teachers and some not so awesome in the class, but rock stars in the clinicals. Not everyone is a good lecturer, but what they can SHOW you is fantastic.

There has been some teacher turn over in the past. Personally I can't imagine taking a major paycut to teach a class room full of Nursing students... The reason there is a nursing shortage is because there is a shortage of nursing instructors. Concorde is also a corporation, you have to realize that what they expect out of their instructors is more that what a regular college would. These people have to work their a**es off for us. The first two classes graduated right at 50% of the students that started. Our class started with around 30, some from previous classes joined our, and we haven't lost any body! We are a huge class of about 42... It's crazy!

Ok, so with that said - any wonder that our clinicals are all over Denver Metro? They have to work hard to find places for all of us! I commute from Longmont, and I think our furthest (for me) clinical will be this session when we have to go to Ft. Logan for psych. CCC has some great study resources though and I downloaded mp3 files of lectures for every class I have. I just drive and listen to my radio. I refuse to let the commute be a waste of my study time!

I hope some of this helps. It is crazy, it is hard, but if there is a nursing school that isn't... not sure I want to work with those nurses... Ya know?

D'sGirl - You can't imagine how helpful your comments are for me. This is exactly the kind of stuff I need to hear - and the comments about the teachers are right on as well.

I'm motivated to see just how I can come up with the money (the part of the tuition I'd need to come up with). Leprechauns - Please stop by our house if you're dropping off any pots of gold today

Thank you so much!

It has been a hard road for me, but I had inspiration. I think the best advice anyone could give is to hang on to your dreams, don't give up on what you want. I started out the program counting the weeks. Every Friday was another huge landmark... pretty soon I will be counting the days!

I didn't realize your RN class was as big as it is - I was given the impression when I went to the school that they'll admit about 20 for the next class. The more the merrier!

Your enthusiasm and excitement are contagious, D'sGirl It give me a lot of hope that maybe I CAN do this after all - even though I'd bet the farm that I'll be the oldest student.

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

LOL! I bet you'll be surprised about the ages, any where from fresh out of high school to... well... us I guess!

They try to admit 20 new recruits every for every starting session which leaves room for those that have to repeat for any reason, and leave a few chairs for the LPNs coming into the later sessions with the bridge program.

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

Ok, that makes sense. About admitting 20 new people and leaving room for LPN-RN and any repeaters. I did well on my Wonderlic and NET and I've been told those are good signs.

Now if I can just go on eBay and bid on some extra brain cells

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

I am preparing for the NET test and would greatly appreciate it if anyone could let me know what is on it so that I can do well and not spend a lot of time studying something that may not be needed when I take the test.
I have been studying the study guide they told me to study but wanted to hear from someone who took it.
Thank you.

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

Medicalstud: Here's my opinion of the test that I've posted for others (and what schools are you looking at??):

Can You Give Any Example Questions Of What Was On The Math??? And What Was Difficult Regarding The Reading?????

I took the NET several weeks ago and the math section was very similar to the practice test (with answers) at the site below:

http://www.testprepreview.com/net_test_breakdown.htm

The reading practice is similar as well, but I found the actual test to be a little less straight-forward than the practice (i.e., on the actual test, I more often got stuck choosing between 2 answers and on the practice test I didn't have that issue very much at all).

Good luck!

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

Gizmosmom,
Thanks for writing back. I am planning on taking it at Concorde in Aurora Colorado. I have been drilling myself on the website math questions at the site you listed in your response and am just really nervous that I might blow my one chance this year to get accepted into the program.
I have been an MA for 3 years and now work as a MA, CNA.

I want to be a nurse and if I can pass this test I can make the dream a reality. I tried for Front Range but the wait list as you know is so long!
I was wondering since you took the exam were you accepted?

Good luck to you too

Re: Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

FYI: The Practice NET test is harder than real life. I think the point of it is that if you can pass that you will not have a problem passing the real one. Remember it is timed, so you have something like a minute for each question... Brush up on your fractions, and remember polynomials and such from Basic Algebra and you will be fine. A lot of folks practiced the math on Sparknotes.com and it really helped! Good Luck and God Speed! I don't even know you, but I have faith. I figure if I can do it... ANY ONE CAN!!! LOL!
