Question Re: Wishing to work in California, from another state

Uh oh.....
So I thought it would be a good idea to get started on the California License process so did two things:
1) Paid the $30 to Nursys to have my Indiana license verified (right?)
2) Went to the CBN website and paid $50 to get the process started on my application.

Well...........just hours after I did this my friend who is currently working as a travel nurse in California said that I totally messed up- that I should not have done anything! She stated since I was from Indiana all I should have done was just shown up in Sacramento and gone through the walk through process.
I am hoping to start a travel assignment November 26th- did I mess up?
Can I still just do this walk-through thing even though I started online?

I SWEAR it was much easier in Indiana =)

I'm trying to find WHERE on the BRN website it details the educational requirements for licensure in CA. I can find info about endorsement that refers to the fact that you must meet the educational requirements, but no further information on what those requirements are. More specifically, what they're looking for on transcripts to see if you meet their requirements, etc.

Thanks!

Yes, PLEASE does anyone have information on this? So even if I'm an RN licensed in Texas, CA could make me go back to school to be licensed there??

Also, if I go directly to Sacremento, do I already need my fingerprints, transcripts sent, etc? Or just the Nursys thing?

Oh also, I want to keep my license active for Texas. THey require 20 CEs every 2 years. CA requires 30. Can I just do 30 CEs and use them for both states?

The specific requirements that a nursing school is expected to comply with are usually not listed. To become licensed, you will find the requirements listed in the application for licensure in the section on the directions for completing the application. If you are licensed in Texas you apply to California for endorsement to get a California license. The directions for doing this are on the California Board of Nursing site (http://www.rn.ca.gov/index.html).

Re: Wishing to work in California, from another state

Hi there,

Quick question about Livescan versus fingerprinting cards. For Livescan, is there an actual paper form that I need if I am travel to LA, for example, and decide to go to a place to have Livescan done? I believe I requested the form from BRN, but I received the fingerprinting card in the mail. I have a feeling that they probably saw my MA address and automatically changed my request and gave me the fingerprint card. I just need someone to confirm that there is actual Livescan card that I need, or can I just show up at Livescan and get it done?

Thanks.

You can print the forms from here:

http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/fpinstruct.shtml

You will need to print 3 copies.

Re: Wishing to work in California, from another state

If one actually drives up to Sacramento, you can get a temporary license issued that day provided that you have a license from a state that is covered under Nursys, or your BON has already submitted it the verification.

The permanent license will not be issued until they actually have your transcripts in hand. And that goes for anyone, even if graduated back in the dark agess; they still require the transcripts.
