What do you think of Sacramento?

Thinking of moving to sacramento? Can people recommend any hospitals? Mercy? Sutter? Which areas are nice to live?

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

There are a lot of great suburbs in the Sacramento area depending on how far you want to drive and how rural a setting you want to live in....my mom lived in Oroville (north) and it was a lovely town, but still pretty rural (this was about 15 years ago)...last I knew there were still a lot of towns like that in the surrounding areas.......then there were also lots of new tracts/subdivisions of homes going up nearer to Sacramento if you like something similar to "city living"....I'm sure you'll get more responses and more specific help about hospitals....

Good luck!!

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

I'm still waiting to get into nursing school, but I've lived in Sacramento for a long time. We live in East Sacramento. It's a great, safe neighborhood and we're close to UC Davis Med Center, Kaiser, Mercy and Sutter. Sutter Memorial and Mercy General are within easy walking distance from our house.

Thanks for the reply. I think Sacramento is going to be really nice. I'll interview first then think about things. Hmmmmm.

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

What field of nursing are you in? Each of the hospitals is well known for different things.

As for areas to live... I'd never live anywhere around here except within Sacramento itself. I agree, East Sac is nice, and so are Midtown and Downtown.

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

I am en ER nurse, but would like to move on to a less "stressful" environment like Recovery Room, Intervention Radiology,Day Surgery, GI Clinics. Hopefully Sacramento has a some positions to offer. It looks like there are a lot of Hospitals there?

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

If you don't mind driving (about an hour or less) you could live in the Yuba Sutter area. The housing market is less than Sac's and so is the cost of living.

Hi Elisabeth,
How are the apartments around UC Davis? Safety, Prices?

Sorry to butt in your post chatelaine...I am thinking about applying at UC Davis, but I know nothing about CA. Any specifics about the area around Davis would be great...

Re: What do you think of Sacramento?

What are your impressions of the RN job market and general ballpark wages. ( I know I can get on salary.com but i always like to hear from some working people in the area). I know the houseing market has gone down somewhat in the last year, but is still a bit spendy. It looks like the wages make up for it according to salary.com. Any thoughts?
