Hi people!
So, I am deciding to attend Unitek College, which is a vocational school in the Bay area, and I wanted to know if anyone has heard about or graduated from this school! Please let me know!! I want to get sonme input about this school from someone who has actually attended other than the people who work there. San Jose State's nursing program just did not work out! I am also trying to apply at a CC, which I doubt I might get into... But we will see... Unitek is my last resort!

I'm pretty much in the same situation, I've been at a CC for 4 years already, trying to maintain my 3.0 GPA average in the major science prerequisites (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology). BUT I won't be able to apply for my school's RN program until Fall 2008 because of a new clinical class they require before the application process. I'm planning to squeeze in Unitek's 11-month LVN program before I find out if I'm actually in the RN program at EVC.
And correct me if I'm wrong, SJSU's Nursing program is 3 years?? +I hear the instructors aren't that great.
Unitek seems like my best bet.

yeah well i crossed out evc on my list because I know my gpa isn'tgoing to cut. My grades arent bad, I just got a C in physio which messed me all up. What I don't understand is why they tell students that they can pass the sciences classes with a C..and when reality you gotta have all A's. The lady told me that everyone who got in the nursing program at sjsu had an overal gpa of 3.8-4.0 for the the science classes, 30 last units, and the other prereqs such as nufs...psych and whatever else. I havent asked around about the teachers...but i bet they aren't that great. My sister goes to evc and shes planning on doing the program there... which unitek location are you planning to go to and when aryou planning to go? tha would be funny if we ended up in the same loc N sems

Be aware that the tuition is quite steep, for the bridge program for LVNs to RN, the cost is about $32,000. And that is for the program that is less than one year.
Hate to imagine what the other costs are for that program. Also be aware that their first class is just graduating now, so now previous track record on them.

My best guess is that counselors don't want to down students with the GPA thing. They still have a 50% chance to get drawn if their grades aren't high enough, which is too high a percentage for just a random lottery in my opinion.
As for Unitek, I'm looking at Fremont for Summer '08.

Yeah. ..if Unitek will guarantee a spot for me and give me a degree...then i think i might be willing to check it out even with the high cost, i still have to do research though.... i plan to get my assoc.... and then do the rn-bsn bridge program for at SJSU.. nursing counsler at sjsu told me I have a greater chance getting into the bridge program.. well i might see you there if i do end up going. I am still trying to get into Mission though...however, I still want to hear about the school from students or graduates of Unitek? How were the classes, teachers? environment? was it hard trying to find jobs with an assoc from unitek? Fill me in..

HI CEE085,
I don't know if its true, all I've heard about Unitek is that it has a good pass rate, but isnt' the tuition real high, like $40,000? Sorry if I'm wrong I'm not sure about it.

here is the website for the BVNPT nursing:
http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/Education/VN_Stats.asp
You can find out pass rates and all sorts of things on this. Which Unitek will you be attending, which city? After looking, perhaps I'm mistaken.
