I did my undergrad at UCLA and think the area is awesome. When I lived in Westwood, it was fun to walk to shops and go out to eat. When I moved to Santa Monica, it was easy to hop on a bus and get to school/work. I think having UCLA on your resume has to be a good thing. Yes, it's crowded and expensive. It's also a lot of fun and the weather is great. Don't let the parking fee get you down. You'll find that you have to pay for parking just about anywhere in the Westside. You just get used to it.

My girlfriend is an RN with the UC system and had left after many years to move out of state for a period of time. She moved back as soon as she could to get BACK in the UC system as it's apparently a great one for many reasons, including for building up a retirement...I'd say if you're longing to move to CA, you could definitely do worse...and Westwood has its pluses....being a college town, I imagine there's always something to do although it's been many years since I spent any time there!!

I honestly don't think you'll regret it. I can't say enough good things about UCLA and the L.A. area. I suspect that you'll regret not trying it a few years down the road if you don't do it. It's a great hospital, great area, so much to do, etc. My classmate/girlfriend was so impressed from a visit that she decided to come out as well after graduation. Cost of living can be high, but pay is high also and there are always options (like getting a roommate) if you find yourself struggling. I say go for it! If you truly hate it after giving it a fair shot, Atlanta will always be there.

UCLA/westwood great nice area in LA. Im used to living in a nice neighborhood-i think westwood is great esp. if u are not used to living in a big city. I moved out here from the midwest 2 years ago. UCLA campus is gorgeous. I just accepted a job there-in a stepdown unit so far everyone is super friendly. As far as it being expensive-it just depends on the apartment. All through out LA its expensive-but you will make more money as long as u dont blow it all shopping and having fun-thats the hard part You can find nice onebedrooms that are not outragously expensive (1500 average maybe) plus there are close neighborhoods that are good too.

Hi Blee...I too live in Atlanta and I'm also thinking of relocating to LA and have an upcoming interview with UCLA. I see you said you'll be graduating this summer. Have you already started looking at your housing options for when you move out to LA? I think that has been my biggest concern is how will I be able to afford housing? Well I hope everything is going well for you in school and I'm open to any advice you are able to give. Thanks...

I am a California native and working at UCLA this fall in a critical care setting as a new grad. Housing around the area varies in price, neighborhood, and safety. I think you could find a decent, safe apartment for around $1500 a month, but anything less than 1,000 a month I would seriously question. I am guessing that housing in Atlanta must be much cheaper, but the cost of living is higher here, and I'm guessing so is the pay!
