Exclamation San Diego LVN..Need info

Hi,

I am a graduating senior here in San Diego and was wondering what I need to do to get into an LVN program. I recently had to give up my dream of going to SDSU and UCMerced and UCSB since my parents wont be ableto co-sign or even atttempt to help me get my degree. So with university dreams crushed just months before graduation, i figured to get into a program quickly and exit quickly so that i can work asap while able to maintain some higher degree of education.

I have done alot of research to Maric, Southwestern and City College.

All of them offers LVN but I am not understanding how the programs are working.

I know Southwestern requires students to be CNA and I know City requires pre-req in order for students to get into the program.

I was just wondering if anyone else knew about the programs. (ex. admission requirements, cost, etc. etc.)

Also, is Southwestern college really only 1800 for the Vocational Nursing program? I was looking at it and felt a bit shocked to find that it was so low since most LVN programs I hear is around 18000-25ks even more.

heres the link, look under approximate cost.

please help me out. I need info asap.

Re: San Diego LVN..Need info

Here's my two cents about the LVN programs. I was trying to go for the RN program at Southwestern college, so I'm not sure about the LVN programs.
Southwestern and City college require you to finish prereq's before you can apply. It takes about 1-2 years to finish the prereq's, depending on how motivated you are. Southwestern also requires you to have your CNA license, but City college does not.
Southwestern and City college are cheap because they are community colleges. I don't know about the LVN program, but the RN programs at community colleges tell their applicants the waitlist is 2 years, give or take, depending on the number of applicants. So there might be no wait for the LVN program or a shorter wait then the RN program.

Other private schools like, Maric and Concorde, are expensive because they can get you into their program with no wait list.

Re: San Diego LVN..Need info

I just called Southwestern yesterday about their LVN program for a friend. They do want u to be a CNA which only takes 9 weeks to get and they offer it there. There is a very small wait list for the LVN program. she said its about 50 people. they only accept students every 18 months because that is how long their program is. I'm not completely sure of City's program. they didn't answer their phone. I saw a few pre-reqs but i would call to see what the wait list is. It shouldn't be too long. The big wait list are on the generic RN program which is about a 2 year wait but may be almost 3 years now. yeah it sucks big time.

My is don't go to Maric or any of those trade schools. They are lots of $$ and I heard that pass rate is pretty bad. just compare the two. To be an LVN through a community college will cost you like $2000 compared to Maric being $22,000. Yeah....

Concorde is a little less than $28,000 now for their LVN program.
