Hi!!! I passed the NCLEX-RN last April. Anyone here working in hospitals with New Grad RN programs? Would love to get some recommendations Thanks in advance
Wow!!! That's a lot! Thank you so much Hands and Heart Will check these hospitals. By mid-July, I will be in the Costa Mesa area. I am currently in Portland, OR and I sure do hope I can get into their programs within this year Goodluck on your job as well...Thanks again
Northridge hospital, Northidge, California
Los Robles, Thousand Oaks
St. John's, Oxnard, CA
Community Memorial, Ventura, CA
Santa Barbara Cottage, Santa Barbara, CA
I am not familiar with those other schools. I am going to go to work for Northridge. It was the first place that I applied. Los Robles is having a job fair this Friday from 1-4, they are doing interviews at the faire. Cost of living in SB is steep, alot of nurses commute.
Good for you!!! My limitation right now is that I'm out of state so I am not able to go to job fairs there... I sure hope I get into these programs. I am even willing to sign a 1-2 year contract for the training.
Be aware that most of these programs are full already for starts this summer. Applicants have been applying since April or so for slots.
Would definitely advise getting a job first before moving down, always better to do it that way.
Just noticed from one of your other posts that you graduated back in 1992 and never had any experience as an RN in your home country either.
Sorry, but chances of getting hired for a new grad program without taking at least a refresher course is going to be impossible in the hospital setting.
We are seeing it get harder and harder for someone that has been away from the field for even three years to get hired, but 16 years?
There is no way that you can expect to be hired in a hospital, and you are only setting yourself up for failure to try a nursing home without any experience at all and from that long ago.
You are going to need much more than a new grad orientation before getting hired. Would check into that.
Hi Suzanne, Thanks for your advise...I really hope I get a job before I move mid July but if not, I'm willing to wait when I'm there. My husband has been there for 2 years now and we have been apart for that period of time. He said that I can also apply for a job at the facility he's in right now...I am also willing to get into the New Grad programs even in the fall...What we want right now if for everyone to adjust for our move especially my children and to enjoy most of the summertime as a family. I know that California is totally different from Portland especially the weather hehe
