Question Military spouses in San Diego?

Are there any military spouses in San Diego in Nursing school right now? What are some ways you deal with your spouse being gone while you're trying to study? Do any of you have any children?
I'm just getting started, again. The first time I was accepted into a nursing program, I was single and had no children so it was a bit easier for me. Now I have a soon to be 3 yr old and a husband who is on shore duty but goes out atleast once a month. Just wondering some ways to kinda put it all in order when I start in February.

Re: Military spouses in San Diego?

Did the first 6 months of nursing school while my husband was deployed to Bosnia. It isn't easy, but it can be done. Alot of take out food and studying at basketball games, football games and dance programs. Hang in there. My husband is gone again, Iraq, and both of my kids are in college. I am now an RN with 6 years of experience. I am getting ready to take a travel assignment in Phoenix. If you ever find yourself in a similar position, I really recommend travel nursing. Fun, lucrative and lots of experience to be gained!! Good luck!

Re: Military spouses in San Diego?

Isn't military life great? Hopefully you'll get to settle for a few months or a year after you get to California. At least you are in a good specialty for travel nursing. Hang in there. Military has its ups and downs and I can actually say that I have had more ups than downs in the 21+ years I've been married. Of those years I have been an Army Reserve wife, enlisted active duty wife and an officer's wife (all to the same soldier). Enjoy your time it goes fast.

I am prior military so him being gone it isn't a big deal for me.

Our children are teenagers.

I am starting my CNA and finishing up my pre reqs for RN program.

Re: Military spouses in San Diego?

My husband is in the military. We don't have children. He deploys frequently a few weeks at a time but we've been together 7 yrs so it's not a problem for me, at this point I'm use to it.

I start school in the Spring but when I was taking my pre-reqs ( I took Anatomy/Organic Chem one semester and Physiology & Micro the following), he took care of everything at home so it was a big help not having to cook or clean since I was studying 24/7.

I think if you can find someone reliable to care for your child when needed, you will be fine. Good luck!

Re: Military spouses in San Diego?

Thanks to all that replied. I actually just got her into preschool so thats been awesome! That is going to be such a big help on me in so many ways. I had everything taken care of for Maric but they decided to change their program up(one of the many steps to become regionally accredited) and now have added the TEAS test that we have to take. Dh is in and out which is unusual because he's shore duty, but we'll work through it.

All new nursing students here have to take TEAS.

What part of SD do you live at?
