I am interested in moving to California and am currently browsing jobs on line. Some Kaiser jobs have numerical designators, eg., RN II. Does this designation refer to a salary. How can one know how much a job pays at Kaiser. I assume that because of the union there that this information should be public? In any case I need to know about Salaries before making a decision to move to the SF Bay area. Can any one help me?

Those letters designations as per a ladder with skills and experience. The RN III is usually one with advanced skills and training, and normally most do not go into the job with that designation.

Highly recommend that you get hired before moving, or your commute time and expense can be very high. And pay is determined by years of experience working as an RN, there is usually nothing else that is added into it, unless you have exceptional other experiences that would get you hired in at the RN III classification.

Kaiser salary in the Bay Area is quite good, in the $50 per hour range if you have experience. Just because a hospital is part of the union, that has nothing to do with the posting of payscales at all.

Hi, to get salary info on Kaiser and Sutter, you can check the California Nurses Association website. CNA is the union for both those organizations, and they have contract summaries on the website.

New grads start as RN-I with an automatic increase to RN-II after six months. New grad base pay is right around $42/hr, and shift differential can increase that to $48/hr. Bear in mind that CA has high property and income taxes. So what seems like a lot of money, may not be as much take home pay as you hope for.

Kaiser Labor Management Partnership has a website with most union contracts and they contain the salaries. As Suzanne pointed out, new hires are usually I or II and then for other levels there are other special requirements.
It's also a good idea to check out what kind of benefits you have within the negotiated contract (vacation time, tuition reimbursement, etc. )

PS. Kaiser is not exclusively a CNA network. There are other unions for nurses such as UHW, UNAC & SEIU (Moreno Valley which in the process of converting to Kaiser). It just depends on the hospital. UNAC covers most of Southern California & CNA covers the North.

For more economical areas in So Cal. look at Kaiser Riverside, Fontana, & in a few months Moreno Valley.
