Re: Fresno Nursing

I looked into moving to Fresno a year or so back. I also was looking into ICU and acually toured the Clovis community ICU and heart hospital ICU. I spoke with HR, and although they could not tell me the exact pay rate, it was somewhere in the 30's. I seem to recall her saying around $34/hour. They give alot of differentials for various things so it is probably very specific.

I had also heard good things about Clovis community so I wanted to see for myself. I don't know what kind of hospital you are coming from, but the ICU was very small. I think it had something like 7 beds. They do not have a cath lab or do anything that requires bypass. It's a very small community type hospital. After touring it I decided it is not someplace I would want to work, but to each his own. The Fresno heart hospital was beautiful and the people seemed friendly. They do alot of CABG, thoracotomys, stents, but they also do bariatric. I know all the big stuff goes to the large downtown hospital. Although it is not in a great neighborhood, its a very short commute to some nicer places to live.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Re: Fresno Nursing

Clovis Community is a nice smaller hospital for more manageable cases. Fresno Community downtown is another thing... the only level I trauma center in the area, it's staffed with UCSF residents (along with faculty and employees of course) and has a well-earned reputation as one of the finer er/trauma/intensive care programs around. As far as the neighborhood, not much of a worry, the hospital has gobbled up most of the land in that area and it's mostly campus now. Commute is fine, the nicer areas to live start at 10-15 minutes away. And yes, the heart hospital is very nice too... good staff, gorgeous facility.

Other options are Kaiser and St Agnes... stick with the Community system (I'm biased, but honestly do think you'd be best going with them).

Cost of living here is low enough to make up for any wages. Only thing to be aware of is if you have bad allergies, you may want to keep looking elsewhere - the air can be really bad sometimes.

Hope that helps a little.

Re: Fresno Nursing

hi
i moved into fresno from the east coast last december. after sorting out NCLEX and getting license from CA state, I have been hunting a job for a couple of months. I feel like it was a myth of "nursing shortage" in this area cos I have an impresion that hospitals in fresno and clovis do not take new grad at speciality area like ICU and critical care area where I am dying to get in. even Kaiser , fresno heart and st. agnes seems do nto want to take a new grad at this point. finally I just applied to a reguar floor at both community hospitals and got their feed back for interview. But I am literally a stranger in this town and sort of very naive about these hospitals. so, if anybody in this forum can give me any suggestion which hospital i should go, any inside news about these places , salary, units etc. pls pls help me.
honestly, I want to have a job asap but want to land at the right place. also i am being scared of hard to find a job here compared to the east coast where all my friends got their jobs at many great hospitals and of course at critical care area .
so, pls help me friends.

Re: Fresno Nursing

If a vote between both community hospitals, go for Clovis. My next choice would be St. Agnes.

This is my personal opinion on the facilities in that area.
