Question Is it really so hard to get into a program

I am an LPN from Michigan new to AZ. I actually stay in Surprise & I just wanted to go back to school to get my RN. So far it is discouraging. Ethel Bauer school of Nursing was talking about some outrageous tuition of $26,000 I'll be working the first 2 yrs just to pay for the school. Maricopa community college wants me to take about 6 prereqs before I can even apply for the nursing program. Is this the same story every where in AZ. Now I'm thinking I should have stayed in Michigan and endured the winter. But moving over 2,000 miles is very costly. I just want to be a RN. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IMO MCCCD really cuts to the chase when it comes to courses required. There aren't a lot of nonsense courses thrown into their curriculum. Whatever they're asking you to take ----- I can't imagine you'd be exempt from them had you stayed in Michigan.

What additional courses are they requiring of you?

Re: Is it really so hard to get into a program

Wait a sec. Six courses for entry into the program doesn't sound right. All that's required is Chem, A&PI, A&PII, Micro, English, and Math. Surely you already took some of that for your LPN?

I do know of other schools whose bare bones requirements for entry into the nursing program are less. However they're quite a hike from you, plus what's the point? You'd still have to take those same courses sometime, and it's not necessarily advised they be taken as coreqs.

Just so you know, all of the program that are affiliated with the Maricopa community colleges will tell you the same thing as far as pre-req's go. They are all basically the same program just at different schools. I wan't sure if you were aware since you just mentioned Estrella mountain.
