Re: Nice Areas To Live

I live out near East Mesa and I love it. I like quiet, cleaner areas that have a lot of "natural" landscaping-- cactus and all that.
I am not a huge fan of Phoenix or Tempe.. I hate traffic!! But seeing as you are from the city, ya might like it ;-)
I have a beautiful view of the Superstition Mountains out my bedroom window and it's just beautiful out here.

Re: Nice Areas To Live

I live out in the Litchfield Park, Avondale, and Goodyear area. I love it. There's not much traffic, less people, and everything is relatively new. I also think north Glendale and Phoenix are nice as well. The east valley has horrendous traffic problems, as do Buckeye and Anthem. If you like being more in the city, downtown Phoenix is being revitalized, and there are nice historic homes too.

Re: Nice Areas To Live

I am thinking of relocating to AZ as well and have been looking at homes online in the Avondale, Gilbert and Maricopa area. A great website to help you in your home search is www.rgrphoenix.com. From what i've seen so far... in Avondale and Maricopa you get more house for your money. I'm not sure how far they are from Phoenix though. But you can get a nice 4 bedroom home with a pool and a backyard for under $200,000. Gilbert homes are a little more expensive but i think it's closer to phoenix. Others can correct me if i'm wrong, but this is what i've gathered from my search.

I would like more information about the schools in those areas. I'm looking for good elementary public schools with full day kindergarten and good teacher to student ratio.

Re: Nice Areas To Live

You get some good deals in maricopa.. but Maricopa is kind of "out in the sticks".. there is only one main road that goes that way and from what I hear the traffic is horrible leaving & entering, etc. It might be different now.. so someone correct me if I am wrong.
Gilbert is more expensive because it's in a more developed nice area. Gilbert is probably the nicest over-all city that I've been in Arizona.

Re: Nice Areas To Live

Thanks for the info everyone. I think im going to start off renting an apartment, which basically cost as much as a mortgage. But i'll see how I like arizona before committing to an house there. I have to find somewhere thats kid-friendly.

Re: Nice Areas To Live

I've lived in AZ all of my life and I've only ever lived on the east side of town so I am biased....

I really liked living in Mesa and now we are in Queen Creek and I like it here as well. The schools in Gilbert school district are supposed to be very good....and they also service parts of Mesa. I have heard bad things about the public schools where I live in Queen Creek, so we just put our daughter in a charter school, but not having experience with the public schools, I can't really comment.

There are lots of hospitals out here.......within a 30 minute drive of me now, there are quite a few and they are starting a brand new one out here in Queen Creek that will open in phases starting in 2010. It's going to be called Banner Ironwood.

The areas I would look into are Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek....

Re: Nice Areas To Live

Im a "Westsider" having never lived in the East valley, Im biased too! Gilbert is actually further from Phoneix than Avondale. Avondale is west, Gilbert(SE) and Maricopa is East. In all areas of town you will find the same stores, places to shop and eat. Everything is relative unless you have friends or family in one area. That's what keeps us in North Phoenix...family and friends. But you can find nice areas all over the valley(as well as not so nice). I have heard good things about Gilbert but it hasnt made me want to move out there. There are hospitals and care facilities all over. There is definately no shortage of healthcare jobs, no matter what area you live in!

Re: Nice Areas To Live

The nicest areas is the Scottsdale area. But it's also more expensive. If you're looking for reasonable price I would look into the East Valley area, such as Mesa and Gilbert. They have nice areas and are affordable. Personally, I'm not a fan of the West Valley, such as Avondale.

I think the best advice is to stay out of the actual city of Phoenix. I swear the entire town is always under construction. Especially Central Ave.!
