Question LPN Fast Track Program Question's

Hello, I called Gateway today to ask what the pre req's were for the fast track LPN program.
I felt rushed off the phone (as I always do when calling Gateway nursing) & she only answerd some of my questions...or at least I felt that way becuase she just said the same answer's over & over again lol.
I was told this is a program for companies that send there CNA's through the program & each run of the program there were few seats to be filled by other students like myself since I am not affiliated with a company...Is this true? because I hear a lot on here about people considering it. I wonder if they are affiliated w/ a company? Hmmmm. also, amny of the pre req's for the program are not listed on the web site. Athough, she told me them twice & added a a few new ones the second time...I'M SO CONFUSED & who I spoke with was terribly no help!

* I would like to know what the pre req's are for this program?
* What the wait list is like?
* Is this an accelerated program? thus, fast track.
* Do they offer financial aid for this program?
* What is the schedule like? clinical schedule?

& any other info. from expereince would help too. I'm seriousy considering this program.

**Thanks in advance1

Re: LPN Fast Track Program Question's

Hello,

I'm assuming you spoke with an advisor who is extremely discouraging in regard to that program but don't let that get to you! I just started the LPN Fast Track program at Gateway so I will do my best to try and answer your questions.

* I would like to know what the pre req's are for this program? The Pre-req's that I had to take were Terminology, HCC130 and I also had to go through the CNA program (2 classes). You also need to make sure that you have your fingerprint card, CPR cert, as well as all of your vaccinations.
* What the wait list is like?
There wasn't a wait list this year but I'm told that they already have 40 applications for the Spring semester. It's true that some of the spots will be filled by companies, such as Cigna, but there are always a few spots left, usually anywhere form 5-8 is what I was told when I applied.
* Is this an accelerated program? thus, fast track.
This is not an accelerated program. The reason it is called fast track is because you don't have to have all of the pre-req's completed that you need for the RN program, like A&P Chem. Micro, etc..
* Do they offer financial aid for this program?
They offer financial aid for all of their programs. This program also has a day program and a night & weekend program.* What is the schedule like? clinical schedule?
I am in the night & weekend program and we are in class on Tuesday & Thursday nights from 5:30-8:50, and our Lab is on Saturdays from 8-4 right now. That will change when we go to clinicals to 6:45 a.m. until 7:15 p.m.

I have been in this program for 3 weeks now and I absolutely LOVE it!
The instructors are Awesome!
A word of advice, if you want to get real information contact the Nursing Coordiantor for the program. She is extremely helpful. I will give you her phone # if you would like to PM me. Wouldn't feel right posting it.
Hope this helps! Don't give up and don't get discouraged!
Best of luck to you! Hang in there!

Re: LPN Fast Track Program Question's

I have also been inquiring about the "fast track"program.(I don't know why they call it that)There is nothing fast about it. I went to a so-call adviser at MCC at Estrella mountain. I have never been so discouraged about education in all my life. First I want to say, I feel these colleges are a "rip-off.It is all about how much money they can make with all the pre-requisites they are making a person take. I was told in order to get credit for the classes I took for my LPN License that I would have to pay $61 for each credit that I earned to have those credits to be considered. That amount came to about $1,600. This was still no guaranteed I would get the credit, just for them to consider them. I am from Michigan and I have never heard of such foolishness. The adviser was very dry and gave me a list of about 10 classes I should take before even getting into the program. I might as well be starting from scratch.I felt my little LPN License did not mean a thing. I had tears in my eyes when I left there. On the other hand I also went over to Pima Medical institute in Mesa and was told I only needed 3 pre reqs. They are not looking for dedicated nurses, these schools are all about making money. I am almost to the point of just saying forget it and try a whole different field outside of medicine.

Re: LPN Fast Track Program Question's

So the LPN Fast Track is still 2 semesters if all the information I'm reading is correct, right? But basically you can get the LPN portion w/o needing all of the pre-reqs BIO, MAT, and CHM finished? How extreme are the classes for the LPN portion - could you still work on Pre-reqs while you get the LPN if you can fit it into a schedule?

You posted this a while ago so I was wondering how things are going? Where do you do your clinicals? How do you like the program so far? How long is it? Like everyone else I am having a hard time getting info from whoever answers the phone. Seems like she never takes a break. I was told they dont know yet if they will offer it Spring of 09 which really kinda puts my plans up in the air since I was thinking of applying since it is way cheaper than MSC. The evening program sounds great. Nice how they offer a variety. Any feedback would be greatly apprecited.

Re: LPN Fast Track Program Question's

I got the same responses from the person everyone is talking about. So, I just made an appointment. I sat down with her and she is actually very nice. During our half hour meeting, she got like, 5 phone calls and she answered each one. She is super swamped, and seems to be the only that is even available to answer calls. I got to see first hand, so I wasn't so irritated with her after that. In person, she was still sorda vague about my chances of getting in and she wasn't able to really get into any detail about the class after August. Maybe they are doing away with the program? I doubt it but Im sure anything is possible. Maybe they just don't have any details about it so they just don't want to give out wrong info. That's how alot of the schools are, they don't want to say unless they have verified info. I can understand although it can be frustrating. I would rather do that program as opposed to MSC due to the cost. They will probably have more info closer to August I assume......
