How hard is it to get into ASU?

I know for their nursing program they take the top students. Does anyone know what kind of GPA you need to have to get in? And if they look at any other requirements? Thanks in Advance!

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

ASU ranks their applicants on a 7 point scale. Your GPA is applied upto the first 4 points. They use a program GPA. They calculate your freshmen comp grades, 3 of 4 lab sciences, and the best remaining 8 grades to figure your GPA. The remainder of the 7 points are your NET score including an essay. If you are interested you should make an appointment with an adviser and get some more information. Fax them your transcripts then call to make an appointment. Hope this helps

I rcvd this email from ASU Nursing program

Thank you for your interest in Arizona State University ’s College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation Bachelor of Science Program.

The best way to look at our program is to have an evaluation completed by one of our advisors. We would need to see a copy of your unofficial transcript, including credit hours and grades. Please send an unofficial copy of all your college transcripts via fax (602.496.0705) and then call our office at 602.496.0888 to schedule an appointment. We have appointments available at Downtown Phoenix Campus, West Campus and Polytechnic Campus. At this appointment, our advisor can discuss what courses you have completed and what you still need to do in order to apply to our program.

Admission to our program is competitive. Admission is based on a 7 point scale, and all applicants are rank ordered based on this scale. The 7 points are comprised of 4 points for a select GPA (this is the 13 courses applied with); 2 points for the NET (Nurse Entrance Test) where reading and math skills are evaluated; and 1 point for a hand written essay. The average select GPA is typically a 3.5 and above. Over the last few semesters, we have received over 350 applications, and we have between 140–160 seats available depending on the semester applied for. Qualified students that do not receive admission to the program are not put on a waiting list, but instead, are encouraged to reapply the following semester.

Since our new program booklets are not yet available, I have provided some links to our website that may be of interest:

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

So, I met with an advisor this morning at ASU. To be competative, you have to atleast have a 3.5 GPA and they take the 1st C you get in the class, so no retaking a class for a better grade. Out of the 7 point scale, for 2007, the lowest that got in was 5.922 and 2008 was 6.130. Its very competative!!

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

Not quite true with the "C" comment. First it depends what your C is in. If you only have one, and it isn't in Freshmen Comp, or 3 of your labs your golden. If you have a C in the above then you need to take a replacement course. It is a higher course in the subject. I had a C in Eng 101 from 10 years ago, I just finished ENG 217 today to replace it with an A.

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

Kev,
You are correct. I just ommited that bit because it's hard to explain. But you can also take a higher course in your sciences. I am taking CHM 151 to override my C in 130. I got an A in that lab, so don't need to take the 151 lab.

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

Yeah they have a list of different replacement courses, I just wanted to make sure it got out there, keep everyone's hope up!

I like it, it puts when you get into NS a little more into your own hands. No wait list.

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

Yeah, I feel more in control of the process, and also if... no, when I make it in, I will feel like I got in because I earned it, not because I met the min. requirements and then waited my turn. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Re: How hard is it to get into ASU?

Just a suggestion if the NET freaks you out -- You can take the NET at one of the community colleges to get an idea what the test is like and how you will score. It costs around $30. I thought it helped because I knew what to expect. You might have to be registered at one of the schools.
