HELP PLEASE: Northwest Medical Center/Tucson????
|
|
How is this hospital? I have an offer to work critical care going thru an extensive program that sounds great but I'm worried about what Tucson has to offer a 23 year old? Any thoughts? Help is appreciated

You might want to try searching for other posts about Northwest Medical Center ..... or just wait and some of the Tucson folks can give some input with their thoughts.
Have you ever been to Tucson? There are a lot of 23ish year olds, as U of A is in Tucson.

Don't know about the hospital but it is a typical college town.. just with a desert twist.

I've only done clinicals there, but I have to say it's the ONLY hospital in town that treated me well during nursing school. All of the other hospitals treated us like dirt, and the nurses at NWH were kind.
Which ICU did you get an offer at?

I work at Northwest Hospital and love it. I'm on the Med Surg/Ortho floor and work with some wonderful people. I've only been a nurse for about 10 months and the staff at NW have treated me so nicely. They have been patient and willing to share their knowledge. I've floated to other units and have been treated well there also. I hope that you'll give NW a chance. We have a good assortment of ages on the nursing staff and I'm sure you would find a buddy. Let me know if you want anymore info on NW.
Good luck

I have friends at NWH and they all love it. It has a good reputation around town. Only thing I would suggest is that you look for a place to live south of the hospital. As the name indicates, it is in the NW part of the city, so iIf you are 23 and want to be closer to the the night life and the UofA, you mgiht wnat to live somewhere between down town and the hospital (unless you do not mind a 20-30 minute drive to get to the happening areas). There are places to go out around that part of town too, but most of the action is downtown and near UA or more central. Good luck.

Katmoose,
Thanks for the encouraging words... I have been hired to the med/surg/tele/oncology floor at Northwest Med Ctr. I start there 8/11/2008. I would love to chat some more with you about NMC and the Tucson area in general. I'll try to send you a private msg. It was a leap of faith to apply to places so far away and I'm glad I ended up choosing a good place to work!

I'm a 24 year old in tucson =P Do you enjoy the outdoors? When the weather is nice, I love to go hiking and riding my bike. It actually isn't a small city (pop around 800,000). If you want to get an idea of the life here.. take a peek at the online

Right now, it is scary to go outside unless you will be quickly immersed in a pool.

Sky, where do you ride your bike? Are you a road or mountain biker?

I'm not rugged.. I just like strolling on my bike around 4th ave, my neighborhood, and the university. Mountain biking scares me =P I'd rather go hiking carefully with my trekking pole.
Northwest is a nice newish hospital. I had one clinical rotation here and remember that everything was new and supplies were plentiful and easy to find =P The 'most exciting' trauma/cardiac stuff will be at UMC, but I have a nursing classmate who is excited about his cardiac ICU training.
