Hey folks,

I'm toying with the idea of doing the Grand Canyon RN-BSN program. I know that there is some debate about the traditional program, but I think that the RN-BSN has different reqs (aka no religious req classes, etc.) I work for one of the hospitals has an on site program.

How does it work? 6 week classes? For those of you in it, how do you like it?

Are you getting it paid for by your workplace? I found it rather expensive otherwise.

A couple of my coworkers are in the program. Their classes run 6 weeks long. Lots of short papers and presentations but they really enjoy it. GCU took all of their credits from the Community Colleges so they didn't need any additional prereqs....We work for CHW and GCU directly bills the hospital so the students never get a bill....I'll bet that Banner has the same agreement with them.......Their costs are higher than ASU's, RN-BSN program. However, if you already have a degree in another field ASU will charge you the graduate tuition rate which then makes them more expensive than GCU.....I hope this helps....

I work for a place that will pay for it upfront, which is a big bonus. Also, I do have a Bachelor's degree in another field, and paying graduate tuition for an undergrad degree is not appealing!

I'll probably go the GCU route.

Any more advice?

During Block 4 MCC had representatives from both ASU and GCU come out and talk about their programs. They told us about their programs, prereqs and costs. I specifically asked advisors from both schools if having a prior degree would have an effect on my tuition rate. GCU said that it didn't matter but the ASU advsior said that I would have to pay the Graduate tuition rate. I still have her card laying around somewhere if you'd like more info.....

I would say that the best advise is to speak with advisors from both schools and see which program is best for you. I'm still trying to decide whether to go GCU or ASU. I was really leaning towards ASU because they have more Masters options than GCU. However, ASU's program requires clinical hours (I don't know how I will be able to do that and work fulltime) whereas GCU is 1 night a week for 4 hours....but then again, ASU's program can be completed in 12 months and GCU's is 18 months....aarrghh! Decisions, decisions....lol!

Thanks, i thought i remembered hearing something about that a long time ago, but couldn't remember what school it was

I contacted the tuition office at asu and this is the email they responded with:

"It depends on how you are admitted but if you are going for a second undergrad degree you are charged undergrad tuition. If you are just taking undergrad classes for your grad degree you are charged graduate fees."


So there's obviously a disconnect somewhere in the system.....

Hmm..that's interesting...I'll pm you the name and # of the Nursing Program advisor who met with us...It would be sweet if they didn't charge graduate tuition.....
