Re: Ethel Bauer School of Nursing Phoenix

I was digging around on the AZ Board of Nursing website and as far as I could tell the only accredidation they highlight are the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Only about three RN schools are not accredited by these organizations and that includes EBSN and PMI.

In case anyone is looking for more nursing school options there are 3 out of state schools approved for AZ clinicals. From the AZ Board of Nursing website, these include:

*Excelsior College M. Bridget Nettleton, PhD, RN
7 Columbia Circle Dean, School of Nursing

*University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh Stephanie Stewart Ph.D. RN
800 Algoma Blvd Director Undergraduate Program

Be careful with Excelsior. I will admit that I don't know a lot about the program, but I have heard a lot of states aren't accepting Excelsior grads. In addition, you must have clinical experience before getting acccepted into their program, such as paramedic or LPN.
Excelsior was just under review from our BON. Grads will still be allowed to become nurses, but I think they now require a preceptorship at the end of the program. Also, the program isn't as easy as people will think it is, and holds a low pass rate. It is explained over in the distance learning forum.

Ethel Bauer is in the process of getting accreditation from NLN. They just had their first class graduate, which is why they could not be accredited by NLN before. A rep. from the school told me they should have full accreditation sometime in November, but for sure by 2007.

Have you enrolled in a Nursing Program yet? Just wondering. I just graduated from EBSN and they don't have their accredidation yet since it is based on my class (the first graduates of the school) has to take and pass the boards in order for the school to get accredited.

Yes I have. Classes start on Monday, so I'm feeling anxious already.

Since you're one of the first graduates of the program, honestly, how would you rate your experience at EBSN?

Regardless good luck in your nursing career.

Call the school and ask for Sandy. She is very nice, and will answer any/all of your questions.

Oh I have talked to Sandy, she is great! I was wanting more info from a student. My gut tells me Im headed in the right direction though. I have had good vibes from everyone at the school as well. I will just feel more relaxed once their accredidation is complete.

Re: Ethel Bauer School of Nursing Phoenix

Hi all!

When I first replied to this thread I was just starting my second block in EBSN. I am now in my fourth block and my class will be the third class graduated from EBSN... we are so close!

Believe me all the students have concerns about accreditation as it affects our future and the money we just spent getting this education. Recently, we were told by our administrator, that the school had to graduate one class before they applied for ACICS accreditation, our first class graduated Oct '06 and the ACICS committee was just at our school Oct 29-31 going through their accrediting process. This appeared to go very well.

We then asked her about NLN accrediting as a few of us want to continue on with our BSN and MSN degree and worry about where we can continue and a few of us want to work at the VA Hospital system and they will not hire RNs who graduate from non-NLN accredited schools. She said that EBSN would not be able to apply for NLN accrediting until they graduated a second class. Our second class of RN students will be graduating in February '07 and she said it would take 6 months or so to obtain the NLN accrediting.

This school seems to be heading in the right direction with accreditation. If I learn anything else regarding the accrediting from the administration or if I hear about other colleges that will accept EBSN's credits I'll post it.
