IHS information or experience?

I already posted the gist of this note, but mistakenly did so in reply to a couple of postings. So, I will begin anew...
I am due to graduate with my BSN in December. Currently living in Portland and doing my final rotation on the oncology unit at the VA. I am in contact with a recruiter from AK, who related there are three rural locations accepting applications from new grads - Bethel, Nome, and Kotzebue. While I have spent some time in the Kenai area (resided for a few seasons) and have explored SE (former life included purse-seining), I have little knowledge of the areas the recruiter passed along. I am wondering if anyone has is currently living/working in these areas or has in the past, and also if anyone has insight regarding IHS or simply navigating rural/community health employment options throughout AK. As a graduate of a private university, loan forgiveness is naturally a consideration - albeit not the top priority.
If anyone would like to share their knowledge or experience, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, one side-note and an important consideration, my sig. other is a veterinarian and we hope to find an area where both of our skills are useful/wanted... Any advice? Thanks, Katie.
