I was thinking about taking a position as a nurse extern at Providence. Does anyone know what this involves? Will it work with my schooling schedule? Will it help me when trying to procure a nursing job later, even if the new job is not with Providence?

I would totally take the opportunity. They obviously know you are in school and need to work around your school schedule. Perform well and you will get a job. Don't be fooled into thinking just because there is a nursing shortage that you will have your pick of jobs when you graduate. Take the externship, get the experience and get your foot in the door.
