Whats the BEST university for BSN?

Im a freshman at Alabama Southern Community College right now and Im just getting my basics. However, I need to know what Alabama University has the best BSN program. Keep in mind that I want the best universty for my major but I still want to have SOME fun when I get ready to transfer to a 4-year college (even tho im not a big partier, haha).

UAB is the only hospital in the state that has Magnet status so the nursing program there is supposed to be one of the best. You can read a lot about this online. I don't have my BSN yet, (hopefully will be starting the BSN program at UAB soon as a 2nd Bachelors) but the UAB program seems to be top notch. Also, Birmingham has lots of things to do.

Good Luck!

I didnt receive my BSN from UAB, but I am enrolled in their MSN program. The MSN program is ranked in the top 10% in the country. Not to mention all the opportunities that you get with all the different services that UAB offers that are ranked in the "Best of the Best" in US News.

i go to the university of south alabama, and i like it! i'm starting the nursing program in january. there are lots of good hospitals here, and 3 that are owned by the university itself. USA is in the 98th percentile for graduates passing the NCLEX. also, mobile has lots to do compared to other cities in alabama, and we're 30 minutes away from the beach... can't beat that!! pesronally, i love living on the gulf, and couldn't give that up for anything... not even a bunch of hurricanes

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

oh yeah, just to add, i've finished up some extra per-reqs so i can apply to the PA program right after graduation. USA is the only university in alabama (besides UAB and samford in birmingham) that has a physician's assistant program.

Yup. But UAB puts you through a LOT, especially the undergrad program. I am graduating in May and feel like going to UAB has helped open doors for me. Seriously. I want to travel one day and people will KNOW about UAB School of Nursing. On the flip side-be prepared to not have a life. I'm serious. If you really want to do well, or at least PASS, you have to make this program your #1 priority otherwise they will kick you out. Our entering class had a cut off gpa of 3.26. And most of them took the pre-reqs at UAB (A/P, Patho, Micro) which are TEN TIMES HARDER than any science class you can take at Jeff State, Wallace, etc. Sorry but that's the truth. I know people who took classes at both and UAB is no joke, especially when you have only PhD's teaching Patho, Micro, etc. People came in with a 4.0 gpa in our class and are now graduating with closer to a 3.0.

First semester of nursing school we lost close to 20 people. I've heard they're making it easier now (HAH thanks) though......but honestly if you want the best education grounded more in theory than clinical practice (good for future NP's, CRNA's, PhD's, etc)....than go to UAB!

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

I received my BSN from Jacksonville State University. Learned a lot. Beautiful campus. And you can take most/all courses online, which is great if you work fulltime as an RN now.

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

I am doing the accelerated program at Auburn. THey have a great program down here. Not to bash on the UAB people, but we had a lady from UAB Hospital come and tell our Dean that they would hire a AU grad over a UAB grad due to how well we are prepared. Now whether that is true or not, I don't know. The class as a whole was told that by our Dean on the first day of class so I'm going to tend to believe it. I can tell ya that I have also seen UA's nursing building (NICCCCCEEEEEEE !!!!!) and if you go to UAH in Huntsville, they have part of UAB Medical school up there. You do your last two years of Med school at Huntsville Hospital, the only regional hospital north of BIrmingham and South of Nashville.
