Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

I go to the university of south alabama, and i like it! i'm starting the nursing program in january. there are lots of good hospitals here, and 3 that are owned by the university itself.

I applied to USA in January for the Accelerated BSN program. I qualify for the Accelerated MSN especially because my Bachelor's degree is in Health Care Administration. I'm goal is to pursue the Family NP program shortly after the BSN.

Does USA accept only Alabama applicants? Cause I live in California.

I submitted all my documents for th Fall 2007 semester in February but the Nursing department says I have to wait till April 1, the Fall 2007 deadline to hear their decision about my application.

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

I finished my BSN at Auburn University at Montgomery in 1989. I taught at Auburn School of Nursing Main Campus in 2002. Both schools taught students to think about the holistic approach not just allopathic (western medicine). Both encouraged activism in healthcare policy reform as well as getting cutting edge bedside skills. The AUM students have ACLS (I have taught them for 2 years) before they graduate with their BSN to help with job competitive job placement. This is just my opinon. I work with grads from Troy, UAB, UAH, UA, Wallace CC, Emory, USA, Berea, Auburn & AUM. Each person brings something special to the healthcare team.

UAH is top notch, i have never regretted one moment of going there. The town of Huntsville is also great with a wide assortment of people in all kinds of areas of work, alot of engineers. Not so much a party life but alot of things to do and places to go. I sure do miss it today.

I just graduated from that program at USA, and they do accept out-of-state applicants. I came from Ga, and we had many people that graduated out of state (miss. state, lsu, Iowa and so on..).
I do want to warn you though, be prepared to cut ties with just about anyone except for your significant other; the program is tough.

I feel that it prepared me very well as I got a nice ICU job and don't feel too crazy yet. Just make sure to ask to go precept in whichever unit/hospital/city you want to practice in, as it helps ALOT in getting a job early. (I did my final precepting in Birmingham at a CVICU and got an offer after only 100 hours; half of what was required.)

Good luck getting in

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

Well, if you want to have a little fun, you know you can go to Bama in Tuscaloosa. But, the program reminded me alot of boot camp in the Army. They take no excuses and expect none, they teach you more than you're required or expected to know. You get as much clinical experience as ANY program, and you will know you have accomplished something when you graduate. I graduated with my BSN from Bama and have taken some masters courses at UAB. I probably knew at least 70% of the masters stuff from my undergrad work. The instructors are all doctorate prepared. They will eat you alive if you don't work and perform. But, you will be glad for it when you start your first job. Plus, it seems like half of every class that graduates is in anesthesia school within a year of graduating. I do love my Alma Mater, and am probably a little partial, but I believe I am being truthful and honest with you if you want a challenging program and want to be thoroughly prepared to be a proffessional nurse. One testimony as to the quality of the program, I saw two people flunk out of the program Twice! while I was there and one had a BS in zoology from Auburn and one had a BS in chemistry. That should tell you something. But I'm sure all of the other programs are good too. Are you still wondering where you should go?

Re: Whats the BEST university for BSN?

I went to UNA. Good nursing school, but in my opinion, the college life sucks. Not much to do at all. There's only like 1 or 2 bars. Don't recommend it for the full college experience.

Obviously Alabama & Auburn are fun party schools. I don't know much about their nursing programs. I do have a friend who graduated from Alabama & she's doing well.

USA..I went there a few years. Good location...close to beach. Ok city, I won't go back. Good that they have a med school

UAB.. B'ham is a pretty nice town. I'd assuse UAB is one of the better nursing schools, great medical school too.

UAH...technologically good. Huntsville is my home town, don't recommend it as a good college experience though. It's pretty boring. Everyone I went to highschool with left for college.

Those are the only ones I can think of!

So...uab for the education and auburn & alabama for the fun. Good luck to ya!

I'm one of those who thinks any of these places would provide a good enough education for you to be a good nurse. So you do have to look at the bigger picture. All schools take the same boards. I know stupid nurses from top notch schools & amazing nurses from tiny community colleges in the middle of nowhere. It all depends on the person I guess!

Oh..one more thing! All nursing programs are like boot camp. They are ALL tough. It does take a lot out of you. I think all nursing schools across the country are like this however.
