I am going to JC right now and I am planning on transferring to the university of South Alabama (next fall 08'). I am just worried I won't get in with a 3.2. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

i'm at south right now, finishing up my last semester of pre-reqs in the fall, and starting nursing school in january. the application deadline is september 1st, but i went ahead and sent mine in a couple weeks ago. i was told to expect an acceptance letter in november or december. i had a 4.0, so i'm not worried about that, but i can give you a little information on the subject. nancy howell is the nursing advisor, and if you havent set up a meeting with her yet, you should. she will anything and everything to you. as far as the applications, they don't even look at them until the deadline, so don't worry about thinking you have to get it in early... it's not first come first serve. everyone who's application meets the deadline is reviewed to make sure you have met all the pre-reqs, and have at least a C in the classes that are specified. then, they go down the list and put everyone in descending order based on GPA. they take a certain number of applicants each time, and there are usually some people who decide on a different school, decide against nursing completely, move, etc.. and then they refer to an alternate list of people with a lower GPA. i really can't say whether or not a 3.2 is high enough, but i honestly would think so, considering one of the requirements is to have at least a 2.5 or above. so, you're far above that. good luck!!

Thank You for your relply.. Thanks for the encouragement! That always helps! I will make an appointment with Nancy Howell, that will probably help me out alot.. I know a 3.2 isn't the best, but I really hope it will get me in.. If not I will have to retake the 2 classes I got a C in.

Are you at South now? I was accepted at Faulkner and Bishop but declined at the last minute and decided to go for my BSN since I only have 4 more pre reqs to finish. I just turned in my application a couple of days ago. I'm really aiming for the accelerated program but I hear that is really hard to get into since people with previous BS/BA has priority, then they'll go down the list according to GPA. I currently have a 3.9something; I got a B in English 25 yrs ago and praying the 3.9 will be sufficient. I'm a nervous wreck since I declined Faulkner for this Fall.. Faulkner is really hard to get in and if USA won't take me, I'd have to wait another 4-6 months which I don't have.

Are you looking at the traditional or accelerated? I may see you this coming Spring then.

You must call for the appointment quick because, Nancy Howell is booked up until the last week of August. I was just in there and was hoping to move my appointment with her up but was told she is booked up until the 25th or something like that. Make sure you have your application for South in first before the nursing application. Start getting official transcripts to them now. I've requested for my transcripts from Faulkner but it's been 5 days and South hasn't received it yet. From what i understand, they may not look at your application unless you are in South's computer system. SInce Sept 1 is coming up fast, you need to move fast.. You should get your 2 steps TB test, MMR, and chicken pox immunization or titer to prove your immunity as soon as you can. Additionally, get your CPR certification, and prove of health insurance. All these things are required with your application for nursing. Maybe we'll all see each other this coming Spring.

yes, i'm at south right now, and have been since the beginning. this upcoming semester (starts august 21st) i'll be finishing up my last 4 pre-reqs, and starting nursing school in january. i applied for the traditional BSN program. i have a 4.0, so i feel like i could've gotten into the accelerated program if i had wanted to, but i honestly can't even imagine. from what i've heard, the traditional program is soo tough that i don't even want to consider the accelerated one. i've been told that no one has graduated from south's BSN program with a 4.0 in 5 years. scary, huh!! and disappointing, too, because i was hoping to keep mine. but anyway, the program is supposed to be great, and USA is in the 98th percentile for it's graduates passing the NCLEX. your 3.9 is impressive, and i'm sure you will have NO problem getting in. however, the accelerated program only takes 12 students each time, so i really don't know how that will work... but again, you have a great GPA, so it probably wouldn't be a problem. transferring schools is a huge pain in the butt... anyway you look at it, it's a hassle. you have to stay on the people at faulkner and make sure they do what they're supposed to do.. and follow up with south.

Oh yeah I forgot that.. Took my set of hepatitis B years go when we traveled out of the country to somewhere..

I 've spoken to a few people who took the accelerated program and they said you can do it if you're really focussed. As I recalled, one of those girls said she was the only one with a 4.0 in there.... I'm certain she has more brain cells than me.

Faulkner is pretty tough too I hear and if you fail a class, you can't pick up where you fail but must start all over. They accepted 60-70 students last year and I think there are only 20 left in the program, and there is still another 2 semesters to go...

hello there..i will be joining this FALL 08 prerequisite course..i want to know if hepa B shots are mandatory because it was not mentioned so in the form i got from the universtiy..I a well aware that MMR is mandatory..

hi i need some suggestions here..can u please let me know of the subjects i need to take up initially?i have completed masters in anatomy on 2005.Is it mandatory to repeat the subjects which have been studied within 3 years in a non -US university?I am rather worried that i will have to repeat the course on subjects which i have completed not more than 3 years ago...please comment on this

3.2 is not very competitive but it will certainly get you into the generic BSN program.
