questions about sylacauga/birmingham area hospitals

i'm looking to move to sylacauga. i'm a bsn nurse with 2 years icu and 3 years er experience. i am currently a charge nurse in a 36 bed er in the new orleans area. i do not need benefits as i have benefits through my wife. the program i am in now is basically a float pool except i refuse to float outside of the er and i get my way since i am one of the charge nurses. my pay is currently $37 plus diffs. my questions are, what are the hospitals paying in the birmingham/sylacauga area for nurses without benefits. what are the better hospitals to work at. in the next year or so i plan on attending crna or med school so uab is a plus in that area. i would like to try to keep my salary around what it currently is if possible. any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Re: questions about sylacauga/birmingham area hospitals

I think you may find your salary will not be the same ehre even Flexi. St. Vincents has a Baylor program and I know they need Baylor Night folks. UAB new grad rate is 19.85 as of four months ago. St. Vincents New grad rate is 20, baylor addition is 65%, not sure about UAB. So thats 33/hr working Sat/Sun night. I have been told that Shelby County Hospital has a baylor night flexi position thats 44/hr. Hope that helps.

Burner, I think the Baylor program they are referring to is when there is one staff that works the weekdays and one staff that works the weekends. I think by saying "Baylor Nights" it is meant Fri&Sat nights 7p-7a.

OH! Also, I am not sure how familiar you are with the B'ham area, but Sylacauga is about 50 mi. SE of downtown B'ham, and the travel between the two is on the busiest highway in the state of Alabama. Something to keep in mind when deciding upon your employer!!
