pay incentives in Birmingham area

I am considering a move to the Birmingham area, and was curious about shift differentials, weekend and any other incentive pay that hospitals in the area offer. I am very interested in UAB, but would welcome any other responses as well.
I would appreciate any info you could provide.

As a new grad. starting pay at UAB is 19.30/hr. There is 15% evening, 20% night diff. I know you do have to pay to park, but you can go to UAB school for 18 credit hours per year. Hope that helps.

At St Vincent's hospital...the shift differential for evenings is $4/hr and nights $5/hr. They also offer base plus 30% IF you don't take benefits. I know that they do have a strict baylor shift and I think (not exactly sure) that their shift diff for baylor may be base plus 40%. Parking at St Vincent's is free. They are also offering a "loan forgiveness" of up to $8400.00 with a one year commitment--"loan forgiveness" is a new program.

A few questions about St. Vincent's:
1: What is their pay for a new grad BSN?
2: Is there a weekend diff, if so what is it?
3: I know some of the hospitals around B-ham try and schedule around overtime.... are there opportunities for overtime at St. Vincents?
4: The loan forgiveness.... I have heard some places, albeit crappy ones, that do not give the people getting the loan forgiveness any sort of shift diff. Have you heard anything like that about St. Vs.

Thanks for any info.....

1. Not sure for BSN-- ADN new grad pay is 19.53
2. It is my understanding that St Vincent's tries to cover weekends with Baylor shift staff and weekends are rare unless of course you work Baylor.
3. I dont know about overtime
4. As I stated before the loan forgiveness is a relatively new program - I learned today that it only applies for new grads-- It is my understanding that they are still working out all the details.

you can call HR for more details-- they are very friendly!!

Re: pay incentives in Birmingham area

Does anyone know if UAB offers an increase in pay if you decline their benefits, like St. Vincent's does? If so how much of an increase in pay?

Thanks

I am pretty sure that UAB does not offer any sort of incentive for employees to decline benefits. Since they are a state employer you can look up the mandatory retirement plans (probably the same as public school teachers and such), which I am pretty sure you cannot decline. You can always opt not to take health insurance but at UAB they probably offer a plan through UAB so you would be saving about $50/month for a single person or something along those lines (read not worth it...).
