Smile Jeff State admissions question

Hi, everyone. I am new around the boards and have a question.

I have attended JSCC in the past and am planning on reapplying for admission to the nursing program for the Spring '08 semester. I know they use a 200 pt scale for ranking candidates, but does anyone know how this scale breaks down?

Thanks!

Donna

Re: Jeff State admissions question

The 200 points are broken down into three sections.
Section I contains specific science courses that have been taken. A=30 points, B=20 and C=20.
Section II contains specific math couses. You are given 11 or 5 points depending on the level of Math and the grade earned.
Section III is the Compass Test that gives a maximum of 99 points.

Re: Jeff State admissions question

I tried to get accepted last Spring. I was not, b/c what they DON'T tell you is that the add points for chemistry, micro., etc. So, eventhough I've taken A&P I & II, and have a B.S. with all the prereqs. I think I only got 146, or around there. My advise, sit down w/advisor before you apply, so there's no surprises. Also, if you don't make at least 95 or more on Compass test, retake it. I got a 96 and thought I was golden.

Re: Jeff State admissions question

Thanks, BigManRN and tencents.

I am not worried about the COMPASS exam (made a 98, can't expect to top that), and I have taken AP I & II and Microbiology already. If I'm not mistaken (though I may be), those are the three science courses for which they award points. It's the math that may kill me. I've yet to take either of the possible courses, and won't before I apply.

I did see in a post somewhere, which may have been from last year, where someone said the cutoff point for one semester's admissions was candidates with >182 pts. Yikes! Looks like I'll be throwing my hat in the ring with some other programs, too...

You got to take the Math before you apply. They wont accept you without it. Plus once you get into the program you still have to pass the NET which has Math on it. Just some FYI for you.

Good Luck!!

Re: Jeff State admissions question

I applied for Fall 2006 I think the cut off was 178, and I applied Spring 2007 and the cut off point were 174. Those numbers were given by the advisors themselves. The points flucuate.... It's realyl best to get all A's in those science classes. I've taken all of my pre-req's except Micro. I didn't get in last semester for a mis-calculation from of my high school grades

Re: Jeff State admissions question

Indieflower I got the same points information from the advisors. I also applied for Fall 2006 and was just a couple of points short. I decided not to apply for Spring 2007 and wait for the part time program that begins Fall 2007. I talked to the advisers in March and found out that I had enough points to make the cut if I had only applied. I'm now gathering all my old transcripts and getting ready to turn in my paperwork next week. Will you be applying for Fall 2007?

Re: Jeff State admissions question

I sure am... I was told I HAD to get an A in Bio 202, and I busted my tail to get it. So I am in the process of gathering all of my transcripts.

The part time program is that the st vincents partnership?

Re: Jeff State admissions question

I'm in the process of gathering my transcipts right now. Doesn't the part time program take like three years to complete ( two nights a week, and every saturday)... I don't know if I could commit every saturday, I wonder if there is a way to finish the program early?
