Re: Introductions...........

Hello everyone. I am a male RN near Mobile,AL. I graduated with my BSN in '97 and worked until 2000 before leaving the nursing field. I recently finished my CEU's & renewed my license and am looking to get back into nursing. Okay, truth is I'm scared sh!t1ess about going back to work after being away so long. If anyone has any suggestions on what type of job would be best for someone like me, I'd sure appreciate the input.

Hello IJB and welcome back to nursing! Where to work depends on your personality. I have worked several different units but for the last five years in ICU and I now can't imagine working any where else. It is much more of a team effort there than any where else I've worked and I love the excitement of challenging pts. Good luck.

Welcome Sandi! I hope you get over the fright soon. My advice on that is to face your fear head on while you have the luxury of an instructor at your back. Chose the difficult pts., try to get something new every time you go to clinicals, and volunteer to do proceedures when you can. It is the best way to insure that your instructor will always be close at hand and it will build your confidence in your skills.
I had trouble communicating w/ pts when I was in school. I told one of my instructors and she put me w/ every difficult to communicate w/ pt she could find (a guy w/ Down's, a non-english speaker, aphasic stroke pt,etc.). By the time I was done w/ that rotation there wasn't a soul I wasn't comfortable talking w/!
Good luck in school.

Re: Introductions...........

Hi Sandi! I am in your class! I am not sure if we have met yet since there are so many students in the class. Good luck next week on your 1st clinical. Mine don't start until Sept 29th.
I found this website over the summer and it has a lot of great information. You are the first current CACC student that I have seen on here.
See you in class!

Hi all, I'm Jacob. I'm in my first semester of the RN program at CACC. I'm 24, married with no kids(just a dog).

BTW, Sandi, I am in your class too. Although, I can't put a face with a name yet because we have so many in the class right now. Good luck with clinicals. You'll do just fine.

Re: Introductions...........

Hey there fellow class mates!! I'll help you put a face to a name. I'm the old lady that sits on the first row in the middle in Fundamentals with Nathan. You can't miss the grey hair!! LOL!! I made it through the first clinical yesterday and it wasn't that bad They instructor was great and kind of eased us into the whole process, gave us a tour of the hospital and everything else. I don't have another clinical till October 10th so I'll be scared all over again but then!! See you guys in class!! PS. I can't put a face to you two either, say howdy in class so I can know who I am talking too!
