Thanks I am actually considering Mobile Infirmiry. I was told to re-contact when I got closer to graduation. I am still tosing the idea of staying here for a year or so to get experience. The pay here starts at 23.86/hr and 27.86/hr for night shift. I know it is not all about the pay but it does help. Also if I accept a position here they have a RN new grad program which would include a mentor for 6 months. It is possible that you could be released in 12-18 weeks, but your mentor is still there for you. They are also offering 1 (8) hr a week training that would include orientation and refreshers to clinical skills. So, I really need to decide what is important to me.

Are you aware of any new grad programs there in Mobile?

Thanks again
Julie

I'm not sure what Mobile Infirmary offers as far as new grad programs and the lenght of the mentor program. I guess it all depends on what speciality you go into. I want Labor and Delivery and I heard from the nurse recruiter that they have had some bad luck with hiring new grads right into L&D...so kind of sucks for me. I haven't decided for sure if I'm going to work at Mobile Infirmary or not, but I do know they pay the most for new grads in this state. I am actually looking into GA and SC....I agree with what you said about it not being all about the money, but I have been through almost 4 years of blood, sweat, and tears in nursing school and it would be nice to be making money that compensates you well for what you know and went through. I know that Mobile Infirmary does NOT offer any sign on bonuses either. My clinical instructor told our class that if you have a husband and benefits is not an issue, you definitely should work as a "prn". They generally get $5.00 more an hour than full time and part time nurses. Hope this info helps. BTW, Mobile is probably one of the coolest cities in AL. It's my hometown, but I've been in Montgomery for the past 3 years in school, and I definitely miss it. It's great...people are friendly, the food is awesome, you have the beach! Great local bands, Mardi Gras....etc!

Good Luck to you!

Some hospitals in Mobile:

USA Children's and Women's Hospital
USA Medical Center
USA Knollwood
Mobile Infirmary
Springhill Memorial
Providence

I think the closest one to Dauphin Island is Providence, but that's not saying much since the hospitals are all within 10 miles of each other! LOL

Good luck!
Hi...have you heard anthing about Thomas Hospital in Fairhope? or South Baldwin in Foley?

Dauphin Island is so beautiful. We go there often. I live in Wilmer, not far from you in Lucedale lol. I am partial to USA womens and childrens. My son goes there often. They are all pretty close together huh? Other than Knollwood and providence.
