Re: Need Excelsior Clarification

Thank you all for the useful info on Excelsior----I recently enrolled and working on NC1. Hope to get it all done within a year---have read that it is possible to complete a module in about a month----is that right?
Thanks!

Depending on how much time you have for reading, yes, you can do it that quickly.

Yes, I have been winging it alone getting my materila together with Excelsior, and having success finding materials, etc. Some of the books I bought used on the internet though amazon, and I even found some of the texts through interlibrary loan.

Will I get accepted into Excelsior although I am a CNA?

EC will not accept you as a student unless you are a LVN, Paramedic, RT or have completed at least 50% of a RN program. There are other qualifications but they dealing with Doctors and midwives things like that.

Debdeb:
You should email the excelsior admissions office (there's a link at excelsior.edu,) but I do think you either need to be an LPN, or have three semesters of clinical in an RN program. I am sure there are also other types of backgrounds they will accept, so you have to run your experience by them.

Can someone please get me very clear cut answers to what I will be "required" to pay for other than the enrollment, application, student services, CPNE, grad fees? Thanks so much for helping me sort out all the options a little clearer! Have a blessed day.
Nursing Concepts 1-7 exams are $220 each. Some of the other general courses vary in prices. They might be cheaper than the core classes. The CPNE is about $1725. The enrollment fee is currently $895 plus other fees if financing. The initial application is about $70. Just get the study guides from Distance Learning Systems on ebay. Also you can purchase questions and answers from Nurse Justin on ebay. One last thing. For every year that you're enrolled, you must pay annual fee (about $500). Some other tests are about $190.

Just make sure you study and do well on all the Nursing Concepts and use the Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX Review Book (the blue colored book). If I was you guys I would start using it now the book now to help prepare for the exams as well as the NCLEX. I hope this helped you out.
My only concern is that I enrolled with Distance Learning Systems and paying alot of money for the study guides. What can I do now?

Do you, or anybody else on this thread have any idea of how long it takes to do the 7 exams and the CPNE? I'd love to get an idea. Looking through the first exam material, it looks like the same type of stuff I'm used to. I would love to finish in less than a year. Do you, or anyone else, think this is possible?
Thanks, and good luck!

It should not take that long if you study 3-5 times a week. If you can go to the library. Then if you use all the resources on ebay, you should get through in about 10-11 months. I'm not kidding. That's if you concentrate on it every chance you get.

I purchased study notes from Ebay from mystudygroup101@yahoo.com, and they are both economical and very thorough. By all means, we should look at the books, but avoid the pitfall of trying to learn everything. At Excelsior, we have the opportunity to do practice tests for the nursing concepts exams. By all means, take advantage of this, as this will tell you volumes about what kind of thinking is involved on the exams, and what information is important.
