Opalm- aren't you doing your CPNE soon? If so, good luck to you! You can do it!
Happynproud- I am overjoyed!!! I am still doing the happy dance...lol. Where are you taking yours? PM me your email addy if you need some study materials.
I posted my experience at the rnstudygroup site if anybody wants the details of how it went. Beware: it's a very long post...lol.
I'm back at studying for the pathophys again. I can't wait to get that exam out of the way! But after doing the CPNE, one tends to feel that the sky is the limit...lol.
Thanks to all of you again for the congrats! It makes me feel so good to get those cyber pats on the back.

Terri- I emailed you the grid tips, mnemonics, a list of the critical elements, etc. If you need any more info, let me know. Take a deep breath- studying for the CPNE can seem overwhelming at first (we've all been there), but everything does come together in the end. You can also make weekly phone appointments with a CPNE advisor who can give you feedback on your progress.
P.S. The critical elements are just the things you need to know for each area of care- the things you have to do in order to pass. The study manual goes over each critical element as you go along.
Don't worry- we're here for you!

lp ? thanks in advance, Terri
THE CRITICAL ELEMENTS ARE IN UNIT IV of your big ol study guide. They are listed under each section of your areas of care that you are being tested on. You have to know them by heart and know how to do them. I bought the flashcards from EC so I could take them to work with me. The study guide is very overwhelming at first. Read the whole thing cover to cover. This gives you an understanding of what the CPNE is all about. Then I actually pulled out the unit IV and put it into a different 3 ring binder for easier studying. Sounds like you have just started to study. I will be happy to help if I can. I have gotten a lot of good info off of websites. PJ

Terri- I sent you a list of the Areas of Care- the Critical Elements are listed there under each AOC. It helps to see them all together. P.S. If "General Survey" is listed on the file, disregard it, because we don't have to do general survey any more.

By any chance do you still have any of the files? I'm just starting the CPNE study guide and already I'm feeling overwelmed. I'd really be interested in your mnemonics. I also purchased EC's flashcards, but I'd be interested to find some easy ones to remember. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's not as overwhelming as it first appears, I promise. The first step in studying for the CPNE is to go over that study manual cover-to-cover (just read through it and do the questions in it). Also get the video/workbook- it's pretty helpful, too. After you go through the manual, go back through the critical elements and write your mnemonics down (I sent you a list of the ones I used- they're shorter than the ones listed on the EPN, and easier to remember). Go ahead and get your Carpenito's now- so you can become as familiar as possible with it. I sent you a file that has info on how to use it. There's also a Carpenito's workbook you can buy if you're really worried about care planning.
Let us know what you need help with the most, and we'll do our best to clear some things up for you. If you have any questions, ask, ask, ask.

Great! I really appreciate you taking the time to send them. I've received the "big" study guide and plan on starting today (just finished last test yesterday, yeah!) I've also signed up to take Chancellor's Workshop in hopes that it will shed some light on this experience. Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Sheila,
I have emailed you the files. You might want to go ahead and delete your email addy from your post, or you will be bombarded by future/current EC students wanting copies of the files.

Can you email me this information as well. I'm still really far from taking the test but it doesn't hurt to know these things as I study along.
Thank you,

Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
I am far from the CPNE but I am trying to study a little at a time early so that it doesn't become overwhelming.
What do you think at the early stages to focus on??
THANKS!
Barbara
