Thinking twice before moving to Calgary from UK

Hi

Is there anyone from the UK planning to go to Alberta or any other province in Canada? I had a job offer from one of the hospitals in Calgary while i was on holiday there. The hospital condition is that i have to pass the RN exam and i have the choice to work as a graduate nurse( A grade) while i wait to write for the exam.
I have received a letter from CARNA ... nursing board for Alberta that i am eligible to take the RN exam soon. Now i am thinking first to go there and work as an A grade then take the exam or do the exam which is due in Oct 2008 then move there.

I wonder if there is anyone at present thinking of moving to Canada or in the process ...any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Bye

Re: Thinking twice before moving to Calgary from UK

Hi Rebecca

We are in Calgary for househunting and we have arrived at lunchtime Thursday. My cousin and her husband are taking us to see the different areas where we could rent and also to have a look at houses to buy. Apparently the credit crunch is already in Calgary and the houses are not selling as quick as they did a year ago.
I will call the embassy when i come back and hopefully we are planning to see Helen Dowey next week.

Bye for now.

Ibrahim

P.s I dont know how to send you PM ..sorry ..it seems to have lost all the icons for sending PM.

Ibrahim

You should be able to send a pm by clicking member name and select option in drop down box. Good luck on the house hunting....

Hi Ibrahim!

Look at Edgemont, Brentwood, Varsity & Dalhousie (best schools)

I heard the houses were falling in price but we decided to rent so that we can get a chance to see the lay of the land so to speak. The house we're going to rent will be offered for sale at the end of the our rental period too, which gives us another option.

Enjoy your trip & say Hi to Helen from me! Looks like you're having good weather too!!

Hope your TWP is sitting on your mat waiting for you when you get back.

Not sure you'd get a work permit for the UK so I'd go with CARNA (pay is better there too!)

Canada is a much better place to be at the moment - well according to all the league tables on best places to live, education etc.

Of course, I'm biased - having chosen to go there too - also have a provisional Sept start date -all dependent on the embassy getting that little work permit to me. Due any day now (I hope!)

Re: Thinking twice before moving to Calgary from UK

Just wanted to let you know that we have had an email from the Embassy to say our permits have been granted - they have not got through the post yet -AMAZING London to London & they're taking ages!! HOwever, if they're not here by MOnday they will fax us copies.

So basically we'll be flying out for a holiday in Florida on 31st July & then hitting Canada 26th August!!!

I'm knee deep in packing boxes & mess & stuff but we're really happy that all the waiitng, uncertainty etc are over!!

Watch out Calgary here I come!!!!
