Re: Comparison of US and UK pay

Hi,
Bearing in mind the current limited market for visas. How do you go about applying for work in the US as a newly qualified? Do you need 1-2 years experience for starters? How much money will I need upfront?

You do not need experience to look for work in the US it is mainly agencies that make that a condition, but like you said bearing in mind the current visa situation I would get a job and look to gaining experience. Also going through the process normally (no retrogression) you are looking atleast 12 months before arriving on US soil so again better getting a job.

Money depends on what you want to do, could end up being 3-4 weeks before you get your first pay check plus there are other things to consider when you first get out there, ie car, signing for utilities, internet access. I would recomment getting Amex as it is transferrable which will help easy things whilst building up your credit (once you arrive in the US your credit rating starts all over again)

Much better to go through the BON and get NCLEX under your belt before looking for work and an employer to petition your GC. There is a sticky regarding direct hire

Re: Comparison of US and UK pay

I have landed a travel job in Edinburgh. What can anyone tell me about what to expect there? Looking forward to seeing the country. Pay is a little less than I am making here, but it's only for a short term. Will be working Dialysis. Thanks for any info. Travelerpat
