My husband obtained a work permit and we are moving in October to London. I will receive a work permit as his wife and would like to continue employment as a nurse however I am unsure if I would be considered by the NMC.
I have an Associates Degree in Nursing; 24month program (and from what I read this is not enough to qualify) however.....
I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Psychology which was a premed studies 4 year degree, and have taken 6months of courses towards my Masters in Nursing. I have worked in an Intensive Care unit for 2 years. Would the NMC consider this or should I give up trying because my actual Nursing degree is not a Bachelors? \
**ANY** advice would be appreciated even if it is discouraging. I hate to take the IELTS to prove I can speak English, then pay the NMC fees...just for them to say nope you don't have a BSN. I would appreciate having a clear cut answer if you MUST have a BS in Nursing.

I think that the only way to find your answer is by talking to the NMC and having a look at the guidence they give.

the requirements are for a 3 year educational course in nursing I am not sure if your degree will count into this.

however given there are 2 year PGDip pre-reg programmes i nthe uk for people witha relevent first degree...

Unfortunately I think the only way is to be assessed by the NMC and they will make a judgement on your transcripts

Any program that is not three years in length will need to be approved by the NMC, they are the only ones that can make the determination.
In the past, they required a full three program in an approved school of nursing to meet the requirements for a foreign nurse coming there to work.

You will have to verify with them if they will or have made any exceptions, but have not seen them doing that.

You may find it much easier to try teaching there instead or with some special program rather than go thru their licensing procedures that can take many, many months to do.

Ultimately the only way you will find your answer to what the NMC will accept is by asking them to send you the documentation and requirements.

I completely agree that the NMC is your first port of call. You may then have to take a course such as this: http://bucks.ac.uk/courses/short_cou...programme.aspx

Also to avoid confusion in the future, your visa will be as a dependent on your husband's work permit - not actually your own work permit.
