This reply may not supply the necessary info this thread wants but I'm taking my chances to help my kababayan even in this little way. My dear nurses who applied in particular agencies, pls be warned that the POEA and nursing council of NZ are working their all effort to combat the greedy recruiters (most Pinoys) here and there. That's why the POEA and Manukau DHB are working together. Manukau is recruiting via POEA qualified applicants. I know this is a long way but at least won't rob your money or won't make you half a million in debt. Some filipino nurses are in huge debt. And some of them landed in rest home ($19-23/hr depending your years of experience). Now, don't get me wrong about rest homes here. Nursing homes here are not as stressful as some tertiary hospitals. You will also learn a lot though your clinical side (IV insertion, taking bloods, etc) will suffer. But, your skill in wound management and how to deal with dementia and your skills in communicating with your patients will get upgraded.
Two days ago when I attended a conference, one kiwi nurse asked me where I came from originally as she didn't know if I was from Philippines or Indonesia or Malaysia. And when I said from the Philippines, I got her "ohh." "So, how's the other filipino nurses in your country? I read the article from the newspaper about some nurses vicitmized?" What else could I say?
YOU DO NOT NEED AN AGENCY TO COME HERE ACTUALLY. I've seen a lot who just come here with their own feet and brave heart. But at least, they were not in debt almost a half a million when they arrived here. Take time to "google" what I have said here, you'll be quite surprise.
