Re: New Zealand nusring grades

Comparing the UK bands etc to the NZ system does depend on where you work. In the public system at the major hospitals (DHB's) RN's are paid on a five step scale which goes up by annual increments until you reach step five and unless you work in the community or are appointed to a senior nurse position that is where you stay. The community nurses then have a further three steps through to a maximum of eight steps. Access to step six and above is by satisfactory performance and annual increments. Then there are eight grades for senior nurses with 3 steps within each grade. The top grade is currently where the nurse practitioners are paid (Eight). The senior nurse positions include speciality nurses, clinical nurse specialists, nurse co-ordinators, nurse managers, clinical nurse managers, clinical nurse educators, nurse consultants, associate nurse managers, reseach nurses etc. The Senior nurse positions have recently been scoped nationally and have had consistent job titles introduced such as Clinical nurse specialists through NZ. You are probably very confused now with all my waffle but if you want more info please ask and I will try and help you out. I hope you enjoy coming to NZto work.
