Need Information - moving to sydney which hospital does 12hr shifts?

Hi, im waiting for my registration to work in sydney, as many probably heard. I do have a job through an agency to work in a surgical ward at RNS Hospital. However, I would like a job doing 12 hr shifts, possible more central Sydney, Prince of Whales Hospital? any advice or to share experiences had in Sydney hospitals greatly appreciated

Re: moving to sydney which hospital does 12hr shifts?

Some areas in POW offer 12 hour shifts, but none of the surgical wards do (to my knowledge), you could always do agency work, as opposed to working permanently for an agency, if you catch my drift, you may pick up a few 12h shifts a week especially if you can do icu. It's a different system out here and in many ways less flexible and progressive than your used to at home, in my experience very few places offer flexible working etc, if you are only interested in surg wards you will most likely be working 9 hour shifts.

as far as i know it is mainly ICU that offers 12 hr shifts, havent heard of general wards providing such a choice. some night duty shifts are longer than am or pms but not 12hrs.

Re: moving to sydney which hospital does 12hr shifts?

Wards will typically have 3 shifts:

Morning (0700 to 1530hrs= 8hr shift)
Arvo (anywhere from 1200-1430hrs to 2030-2300hrs= 8hr shift)
Night (2130 to 0730= 10hr shift)

My hospital offers 12hr shifts in ED and ICU only (along with your normal 8 and 10hrs). Wards have 8's and 10's.

Hey,

Don't know bout the public, but at Prince of Wales Private, the choice of doing 12hr shifts on surgical wards is available. I work ICU and work as AHM there so know they are possible.
